Proof of how thin we are on the OL (still) unfortunately. I figured there would be a drop off but I wasn't expecting it to be that great.
I was hoping we were getting beyond this point. Can't afford JPW getting sacked this many times or get this many hurries.
On a positive note, the four sacks were all in the first half. This was Ross's first start, I hope it was first start jitters that are gone now..
I hope you are right. If you look at it objectively, the result is unsurprising. We were down 2 out of 3 of our best offensive linemen. The star of the offense last week was the o-line.
JPW was simply ineffective due to all the pressure he was under. He has shown growth as he didn't make a catastrophic mistake. When our linemen return, we'll be fine.
I don't know, it looked to me like we needed him tonight...:conf2:If it's just a sprain, good. We shouldn't need Andre for W Ky. We will need him for Arkansas and UGa.
It was like listening to games over the past few years. John Parker Jekyll Hyde just didn't have it tonight. The defense was on the field a long time because the offense was just wretched.
That giant thud you heard was Bama coming back to earth, but I still have faith in CNS, Steele and McElwain.
We won the game. It was disappointing for sure and I think it lets us know that we're still not an elite team and are probably going to lose some games this season. But I don't think a win can be considered a "giant step backwards". If we would have lost then yeah but we played bad and still won.one small victory for alabama, one giant step backwards in the process...
I did not watch the game but was able to listen to it. I'm not sure the logic behind completely going away from what worked so well last week. Like you I'm not a coach or the coach. But the staff could have wanted to use this game to open up the playbook and try to get the new receivers more experienced in the passing game. I don't know, just guessing. But at the end of the day whether we pass or run we've got to get more consistent as Coach Saban has said and that means more consistency with the OL performances.I thought last week vs. Clemson, we established an identity on offense based on hard-nosed running with play-action passing. We all loved the result. The game plan tonight abandoned that completely for this spread offense with Wilson trying to throw the ball all over the place. It looked too much like last year's offense where we put everything on Wilson.
Saban preaches consistency in performance, but tonight, I didn't see consistency in coaching (at least philosophically). Why we didn't try to build off of what we started the season with really confuses me. I just don't see how we'll have a successful offense if we change philosophy from one week to the next. Then again, I'm not a coach so I'm not any kind of expert on this.
That said, I'm proud of the defense for not giving up a TD in two games. The punt-return team was great tonight. We got one offensive drive when we really needed it. I'm glad we came out with a "W" tonight, but it really felt like a step backwards to me.
