Most Desirable HC Job/Opening: Washington, Wash St, Colorado, Tennessee, or Barn?

I'd say Washington, b/c of metropolitan location and they've had some decent success. You could legitmately argue that in the Pac-10, they're a traditional power next to USC when they're good.
Next I'd say Clemson or Tennessee, but since they're both in the South, it could be a lot tougher to get a program back on track and heading up.
Next I'd say Colorado since relatively recently, they've been successful. Although I think Hawkins is the perfect guy for the job.

Egads! So does that make South Carolina the ..:eek2:.. Alabama of the state?
I gotta say the UT job, followed by Washington as a distant second in terms of best opportunity.
Seriously, and this is in no way my crimson colored Kool-Aid talking, but what coach in his right mind would want to move into the state of Alabama and immediately start competing with Nick Saban for recruits?? It's almost career suicide if you ask me.

True, but while he probably won't be fired at the end of this season, he will firmly be on the hot seat next year at this rate. He was 2-10 his first year, 6-7 last year, and looks to be .500 at best this year. And of course it certainly doesn't help that Missouri just thumped him 58-0.
Again, he's probably safe for now, but unless he can really pick things up soon, he may be in trouble next year.
As long as there are no more unexpected openings at major programs, I fully agree.
I would say if coach had to choose between those, i would pick Either washington or Clemson.
The pac 10 you only have to beat USC in the conference. The ACC has like 2 teams a year that is really good.
But as for prestige I think UT is the best of all of them, but to face a conference that on any year has at least 5 top 10 teams in it year in and out....
Colorado is in the same boat....Big 12 and SEC are the toughest conferences in the land.

If you look at it historically, Tennessee runs away with things.
Now, if you throw out tradition and look at things like money, fan loyalty and the ability to recruit, it's a different kettle of fish. Tennessee is hamstrung somewhat by its inability to subsist on homegrown talent; it must recruit nationally. In a down economy, or unless Tennessee has the perfect coach in place, that's a high risk/reward situation and a lot of guys don't want to be there.
Of the original ones you listed, I'd pick Washington first and then Tennessee, but there's no question Tennessee is the historically better program. Colorado would be next followed by Auburn. Washington State doesn't even belong in the discussion; they're the Mississippi State of the PAC-10.

I disagree with the poster who said Clemson was its state's Auburn; they may both be considered the "farm school" in their state but most of the football tradition and championships rests there and not with South Carolina, which (no offense, Gamecock fans) is one of the historically worst teams in Division-IA. Right now may be the best things have been for SCar from the standpoint of consistent success.

You all saying Tennesse are dilusional. They don't even have dominance in their own state when it comes to recruiting. If you think for a second their recruiting problems isnt because everybody (NCAA) aren't watching the money, you haven't been paying attention to college football. Tennesse recruited nationally because Tennessee was paying nationally. If you think Auburn didn't pay Cadillac you are as crazy as most of those up on that hill. NCAA has put the word out if your obvious we will go after you, if you are a huge program we look the other way. Do you know how much money they lost by killing Alabama? They won't do that again if they want a raise next year unless they have to. Warnings have been issued and the schools on the way down in recruiting are feeling the pinch. Tennesse has NO recruiting base. Knoxville is as small of a city as you can get. Nashville and Memphis can't stand the East of the state. Kentucky is a better school if it wasn't for Louisville. Washington if they play their cards right can get all the 2nd tier players from California. This is enough to be 3rd in the PAC 10 every year. Tennessee is at best a normally 3rd best in the SEC East. Really and truelly Georgia is probably the best job in America with LSU right behind it. They have absolutely no challenge to their recruiting in state. These two teams should be far and away two of the best every year. Alabama is really not far behind when you get the best of the state plus Georgia's extra's, Mississippi's best, Memphis area, and not to mention what is left in Florida, but yet a very good chance of grabbing LA's players when Florida St. is down. Tennessee is doomed if you ask me. The money is being watched, and they can't do it without paying players.

I tend to agree to about not wanting to come to the SEC but is the ACC really that bad right now? UNC can play with anyone outside of the top 10. FSU is 7-1 and looking like they are on the way back. Miami is stuffed with talent and appears to be on the up swing. Ga Tech is playing decent and with Johnson's power run game will be a hard opponent to beat. Even Virginia is starting to play well. It's not the meat grinder that is the SEC but it's not exactly Conference USA of the Mountain West either.
I really don't get the love for Clemson. Sure they are the top dog in SC but SC is a small state and GA basically pulls who-ever they want out of the State year in and year out (kind of like us with MS) . Their traditions are like Auburn or Texas A+M, either silly things (rubbing rocks = 12th man = flying eagles) or once in a century National Titles followed by program killing probation. Sure they have a nice lake and are close to Atlanta but otherwise what the heck have they ever done?
I think Washington is the top opening. I real opponent (USC) in conference, no real programs too close by, own a big state to yourself (WSU is nothing without Mike Price) and they can easily pull solid leftovers from CA who want to stay on the West Coast, USC and UCLA can only take 50 out of a state that produces a lot of D1 Talent.

This is the correct answer. I would have voted Clemson but thought it was excluded because it was the obvious choice. Even Jimmy Sexton who knows a thing or two about coaches says this will be job everyone wants this year.
None of them. Clemson is the easiest place. The state of South Carolina has a lot of talent, and it wouldn't be too hard to win in the weak ACC.
