SUGAR BOWL vs UTAH

I've read a bit about Utah and apparently, they run a spread offense like Florida (no surprise considering that's where Meyer was before UF) but their QB Johnson is no Tebow and they don't have as much speed as UF.

I'm not sure what they do on D but their secondary is said to be pretty good.

Their schedule this year looks pretty soft. Signature wins include winning a squeaker at home against Oregon St mid-year, TCU 13-10 and beating BYU 48-21 in their last game. Beating Michigan to start the year looked great then but it didn't turn out to be anything special in the worst year for Michigan in a very long time. Other wins were over UNLV, San Diego State, Wyoming, Weber State, Utah State, Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico.

Looks like we might get a second chance to play the kind of game we wanted to play against Florida: ball control on offense, take away the middle of the field and cutback runs on D and hopefully our corners will play a bit better man to man on deep outside routes. If we can do that, we'll win.

I agree, Graytide. There's a long list of other teams that have taken this team lightly over the years, and many of them were not just beaten by the Utes but beaten soundly.

I just asked my magic 8-ball and it said Georgia/Hawaii 2007 part II. I'm not sure what that means...;)
Utah is not Hawaii from last year. They have at least played a few BCS conference teams. Don't get me wrong, we should win, but make no mistake they are a good team who at least has a decent defense, unlike Hawaii.

Playing Utah like fighting a freshman. If you win no one cares, but if you lose everyone will be quick to tell you how terrible you are. Please give us Ohio State!

Personally I'd prefer playing Utah rather than Ohio State.

Facing the Buckeyes just doesn't fire me up at this point. They're kind of ordinary to me.

I'm sure it'll change but right now give me the Utes.

I say let's welcome the opportunity to play against another spread team in preparation for next year's SECCG with FLA!

Proud of our Guys and our Coaches!

For the second year in a row, the Sugar Bowl gets stuck with the non-BCS-conference at-large qualifier. Not exactly a glamorous match-up, and I would prefer a "big name" opponent, but this Tide team really needs to focus and end the season on a high note with a win. To finish 13-1 and #3 or so in the country would be tremendous!

Why does Sugar Bowl always get at-large teams? Don't we deserve better matchups? Utah is good, but should have done better.

I agree with this sentiment. OSU lost a couple of games... So. Cal & Penn State. I feel confident we'd beat OSU... but our win would be compared to the So. Cal & PSU wins over OSU, with all the accompanying nattering and comparing.

I'd rather take on an undefeated Utah running a spread offense.

Cannot take 'em lightly!!

I want to beat whoever we play. I'd rather play a 'name' team, but I want to be dominating, regardless!

We cannot take Utah lightly. If we do it will be like Okla. and Boise state a few years ago.Utah is a very good team and if we don't come with our A game it might be a long day for us.:BigA:
