As long as the players get up for the game, I don't think it will even be close. The toughest thing about defending that offense is you don't see it that often and you can't duplicate it with a scout team. Well we've already prepared for it off and on for 3 weeks before the SECCG. And now we've seen it run in person by much better athletes than Utah can put on the field. Add that to another month of preparation. This one could get ugly.

I wonder if the LSU fans will be crowing at us like they did last year when we played a bowl game in Louisiana. :)
I see the smiley and I agree with you. They've got nothing to crow about. They've lost 5 and could be heading for number 6 in their bowl matchup. They wanted more, but ended up with Les.

Their schedule was average, but their defensive stats look pretty impressive. They are 12th in scoring defense, 18th in total defense, and 14th in rushing defense. They also take care of the ball and force turnovers (a sign of a tough defense). They are 16th in turnover margin.

If they have a weakness, it is discipline. They draw a lot of penalties.

On paper, this team is pretty good...
I watched the TCU/Utah game earlier in the season and the Utes looked horrible for 3 1/2 quarters. I chalk a lot of that up to a really good D from TCU. In the end, when it mattered the Ute QB looked pretty Solid and got it done versus a very good D. The difference I believe is that our O will be able to push them around and own the Clock where as TCU couldn't do that against Utah. My bet is a close game for a half with us pulling away late in the 3rd.

Ute fan here. Born in Alabama and grew up a Tide fan in Utah until I went to college at the U of Utah.

I'm sure you're disappointed to play us, but I'm hopeful we can give you a good game. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but I'm not sure we can match up with your size and speed. We're just glad we get to play a top notch team this year unlike 2005 when we blew out Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl.

I think you'll find the vast majority of Ute fans to be pretty cool. There are a lot of Mormon fans, but most aren't. The Mormon fans we have are generally very understanding of our drinkin' and carousin' ways.

I'm hoping to get down to the game and meet some of your fans.

Well we probably are a little bit better than the 2005 Pitt team. I might add that the SEC is just a little bit tougher than the Big East also. I think our size moreso than our speed will be our biggest advantage, whereas the Utes ability to spread the field will be theirs.

We saw your offense run last week with argubly the best athletes in college football running it and we were in it almost the entire way and Bama had a shot to win. That is why I like our chances. Good to have you join the discussion.

Welcome to the board and thanks for posting.
Admittedly, not many of us know much about your Utes other than you guys are undefeated and run the spread similar to UF. I did watch some of the Utah v. UM game earlier in the year. As you probably already know being born here, most Bama fans are fiercely loyal to our own Crimson Tide, but do enjoy and welcome discussion (minus the smack of course)our rivals perspective on the upcoming games. Look forward to the matchup.:BigA:
