BREAKING OLD THREAD - Bill O’Brien a candidate for OC (update: officially hired!)

Agree. A lowcost known entity to stabilize. The NCAA investigation isn't concluded so they are unlikely to find who they consider to be their "coach of the future" until that concludes and the penalty plays out. Luke at Ole Miss and Matt Luke. They've got their guy now that the mess Hugh left is...

BREAKING Fourteennessee's Pruitt FIRED (along with staff & Fulmer resigning). Wants back at Alabama

lol. Probably. I think the idea was to get superior athletes. Looks like they were sold Auburn's sloppy seconds instead.

BREAKING Fourteennessee's Pruitt FIRED (along with staff & Fulmer resigning). Wants back at Alabama

Well, he's a defensive genius with the creds to prove it. Maybe it all makes sense when it's just a bunch of X's and O's on a squeaky clean white board.

BREAKING Fourteennessee's Pruitt FIRED (along with staff & Fulmer resigning). Wants back at Alabama

Imagine cheating this badly to get superior athletes and then not even winning anything... At least Freeze disrupted the conference a little bit before his his philandering, snake-handlin self got foisted onto Liberty - where, as it turned out, he was in good company.

    State of Alabama defense

Sure - I'm saying you can't possibly have a sample size large enough to make that statement qualitatively. Help me remember (honestly) when was Steele our DC? 2008?Also, I'd disagree with that. I don't think Steele is very good at all. Pruitt is a great DC. Smart is a good DC. If Golding is here...

    State of Alabama defense

He's not even been here 2 full seasons, right? How could you qualitatively make that statement? Saban has had 3 DC's his entire tenure here with Golding being one of them. Nevermind that last year he had 11 severe injuries to his defense and was forced to start true freshman again SEC defenses...

    State of Alabama defense

Agreed. It's easy to punch him when things weren't going well. But having a lack of injuries and a good run of consistency helped him, I think. The defense has adjusted well, played with more effort, and maximized their strengths while minimizing their weaknesses. You HAVE to credit the DC for a...

    Thoughts on the Heisman Race....

I think Smitty earns it over Jones. Jones has been nothing short of spectacular. You can't take away his achievements, consistency, and poise. The argument against is that he obviously has one of the most astounding casts of talent ever assembled around him. That's not his fault or an indictment...

    Jalen Hurts starting for Eagles

Thrilled that Jalen gets to start. Doubt he retains that position long-term. He's never been an accurate QB and his tendencies are too easily tracked. However, he will make better decisions than Wentz and his legs give them an option they weren't getting before. Wouldn't surprise me if the team...

Does Ohio State play again? Michigan suspending practices.

Twas a joke, true to form. Mostly jest with a sprinkle of sincerity to sell it. It's hard for any group of kids to win an entire season.

DeVonta Smith - Biletnikoff Award and UA Record Book Watch (Week 10 Edition)

I know this thread is about Devonta, but it only makes me more amazed at just how good a year Amari Cooper had in 2014.

Does Ohio State play again? Michigan suspending practices.

Ohio State doesn't play at all in any year until the post season anyways. Little difference this year. No offense, B1G. ; )

Came to this thread just for the hot takes. Was not disappointed.

Opening line: Bama favored by 28 over LSU

I think before the 5 minute mark in the 4th quarter it's free game. Saban usually doesn't wind it down before then. Even now, he may let the backup QB run the full offense after the fact in the name of "experience" and you may still see a demoralized LSU defense still give way. Not sure we will...

JessN: Auburn wrap-up: Tigers' dilemma -- not enough horses, too many elephants

I appreciate the honesty regarding Golding here, Jess. He's been an easy target for a while, but as you stated, if things are going well (and they have progressed quite well this season) he deserves equal praise as well.
