I would bet that some froghorn booster is going to get hosed on his ROI.

They should have topped the shorthorns’ offer just to drive up the price. If they don’t counter our offer, just renege on the deal.

Hope Russaw, Smith and Ryan Day have wonderful poly relationship the next few years. They all deserve each other..
For whatever it’s worth, I saw multiple reels of post-game footage this past season where Smith was repeatedly jawing with opposing players, saying things that cannot be published on this board, and nearly starting some altercations. Take that, plus some dumb penalties I recall against him on a couple of occasions and I almost wonder if he wasn’t encouraged to leave. Never saw anything like that from Russaw, who I suspect departed more due to likely loss of playing time to Pierre - but as others have noted, they were evidently a package deal.

Heywood only played sparingly this past year for UM (2 games). He has shown that he can be bought so color me less than excited about the addition of him for the following reasons:

1) He still has to be developed. Little college experience and will only be a Soph.
2) Very likely he will enter the portal next season whether he has a good year or a bad year just to see what he can get on the open market.

Good times we are living in indeed...
Maybe the information I saw was outdated, but this guy is awfully small for an OLineman at 285.

I saw something years ago that said that part of the way the stars work on recruits is it anticipates how soon they'll be ready to contribute.

So a far 5 would be ready in year 1, a 4 star in year 2 and a 3 star in year 3. Now that's not a perfect formula but you get the idea. A 5 star is not automatically better than an experienced 3 star. DeBoer's team in Washington that went to the championship game for example had very few four stars and I'm not sure if they had any 5 stars.

They did however have 26 5th and 6th year seniors, I think about half were 6th year. So they were veterans. While it seems weird, it can be about as valuable to a team to add a solid 3 star that's shown he can contribute as a 5 star is in terms of immediate affect.

Edit: Smothers, the guy Alabama and Texas were fighting over that was the #1 RB in the portal was a 3 star out of high school.
Smothers might have been higher but he didn’t play his senior year in high school.

Would be a huge get in every sense of the word. The only way that's remotely possible though is if they had the money for Smothers and Coleman, but got word Seaton was entering the portal and saved the money for him. He is not gonna be cheap.

At the very least hes a guy that some other sucker looking for an OT overpays for so that they stop competing with us for the cheaper guy we want
