Link: Texas Tech QB Sorsby Entering Treatment for Gambling Addiction

While I understand not playing Ttech in football....to penalize all Ttech sports is a bit overboard and not fair to the minor sports who had nothing to do with this ruling.

Unfortunately, this is such an egregious ruling that drastic measures to get it overturned just about have to be taken, if the courts aren't going to do it. This cannot be allowed to happen under any circumstances. If nothing is done, then there's nothing anyone can do to govern college sports. Schools will basically be able to do whatever they want.

One of their "minor sports that had nothing to do with it" showed up in OKC last week at the Womens College World Series with a roster that is rumored to cost them $15,000,000 and they still haven't won a freaking thing. Tech needs to be reigned in before everything falls apart.
I was happy to see them lose while wonder boy was in the suite watching.

I understand your point, but see the situation differently.

If you're going to do this at all, it has to be done 100%. To prevent this sort of behavior, I think you have to make Texas Tech true pariah.

To quote one of my best friends, "If you're gonna be a bear, be a Grizzly."

When it comes down to taking an L on their record, I don't expect opposing teams to actually follow through on the threat to forfeit games to Texas Tech. But as others have said, the sentiment is a start.

Didn’t save the link but supposedly every judge in this lower court is a TT grad. Brandon Marcello posted it a few minutes ago on Twitter.

I can only find a $3M valuation on their roster though that may just be the search....it was also rumored that UT was more..since they are now back to back champions...Ttech softball hasnt committed any violation...that resides in the Football program or specifically with one player in that program. I can see the argument that it needs to be nipped in the bud so a sweeping exclusion of all TTech sports from competition is the only way to push back but personally I think thats punishing the many for the crimes of the few. Just not my cup of tea.

The ace pitcher was $1.2, West Virginia hillbilly’s daughter was at least $250k, not much room for the rest of the team if your number is true.

And our Bediako judge was a Bama grad. Our own alum screwed us. Everybody else’s alum judges work for them. Where was ours when we needed him? (Not using blue font because I’m only very slightly sarcastic.)

Google: The estimated cost of the Texas Tech women's softball roster in terms of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) funds is widely reported to be around $3 million, making it one of the most expensive rosters in the country.

Plus the coach makes $1.47 over 5 years....so no where near $15M....makes you wonder what the rest of the team things about this distribution.....

Actually I think he did complete his rehab. All 30 days of it. Apparently that is all it takes and he is all cured now.

There is no “cure“ in addiction treatment. It is terminal. You either die “from it” or “with it”. Even all these years of clean time, I am still a compulsive gambler. I will die a compulsive gambler. But I am a compulsive gambler outside of active addiction. My desire to gamble is currently “arrested”. The moment that I accept that I am “cured“ is the moment that I head down a slippery slope.

The paramount thing for me is waking up everyday and remember “who I am”. And as long as I don’t gamble today I can lead a normal, happy life like many of you. But that is absolutely impossible if my continued focus on staying clean goes away.

Nah, he is cured now. Otherwise allowing him to continue to play a sport that aided in his addiction would be irresponsible. And they cannot possibly be irresponsible. Right?

Art Schlietzer could have had a bust in Canton right now. There is a documentary about him on YouTube that is quite sad. He was going to the track in high school.

I’m sure the ESPN talking heads will condemn this on a show sponsored by Draft Kings. Or during Game Day right after “Bear” gives us his picks against the spread. Or during a game before the announcers make wink wink comments about how a late field goal will affect the spread.

Refusing to schedule TT is a noble idea but I don’t see how the B12 can do that short of kicking them out of the conference. And what if UGA draws them in the postseason? Just forfeit the game? Is a swimmer not going to be allowed to get in the pool if a Tech swimmer is in the next lane? Sorry, Bob, I know you’ve trained your whole life for this but you can’t compete in the 100 meter freestyle championship race because the quarterback gambled on football games a couple years ago.

You just... do it.

What we have begun to prove in our society and culture over the last several years is that nothing is sacred any longer. So, teams just... don't play the games. Don't show up for them. Don't travel. And the conference can record TT with a loss, not a win by forfeit. And the playoff committee can simply not consider them for the playoffs.

It really is that simple, now that we've decided nothing is sacred any longer. Will there be lawsuits? Of course. Don't play them anyway. They will lose millions, and they will eventually capitulate. And then hopefully the example will be set so no one tries this again.

I disagree. The strongest of messages need to be sent. Banning ALL sports puts tremendous pressure on TT, and you KNOW the other coaches and players from TT will scream at their AD to fix it. And after their softball coach admitted their boosters are reaching out during the season to recruit other team's players, I have no sympathy for TT.

Except their softball coach all but admitted the boosters are contacting other team's players during the season. And that IS a violation.
On a side note, I think its disgusting that any player in any sport can be paid in college to where they make in one year more than they could make in a career of playing the sport professionally. Top pro softball players make around $75,000 yearly through bonuses and incentives. Receiving 1.2 million for one season pitching at TT is ridiculous.

man it’s gonna be a rough go of it once he starts having rough games (he has several a year). Those tech fans are gonna eat him alive and say he’s throwing games.
