    NFL Combine 2015

This could be great news as the Raiders historically tend to like very fast receivers.

Tyren Jones Suspended for Conduct Not to the Standard of the Program

Jordan is an outlier since he was able to leverage endorsement deals even after he retired. Very few athletes are able do that.

    J. Winston's Impressive Physique

Good point. The "skinny-fat" physique (slender build with slight gut) seems to be the standard in the NFL now for drop back passers. Another prime example is Matt Ryan.

    Conference Commissioners Considering Freshman Ineligibility

Could you elaborate on how it helps the athletes? Wouldn't the players still have all the same responsibilities (practice, meetings, etc)? It seems like it would also hurt athletes that need a redshirt year as an upperclassman.

It's most likely a case of the statistical fallacy called "survivor bias".

Gary Patterson Wants All Conference Championship Games Eliminated

The committee is placing a premium on conference champions and are very reliant on the championship games to help prevent 2 teams from the same conference from being in the top 4. I don't really like the championship games either, but the Big12 needs to move on.

Rule Change Proposal: Ineligible Man Downfield Decreased to One Yard

The NFL does a good job not letting the game devolve into chaos - does anyone know they handle this?

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

From what I gather, the financial-aid agreements are for a specified academic term, so expiration dates wouldn't apply. The player either enrolls in school and claims it or lets it go unclaimed by enrolling somewhere else. Below is a recent article from Rivals (Jan 16, 2015) on the subject of...

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

I may be mistaken, but from what I've found, the rule changed due to signing multiple agreements only clarified if all of the schools involved could operate under the relaxed recruiting rules or just the first one that the player signed the financial-aid agreement with. I haven't been able to...

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

Was this rule changed? Josh Malone signed financial aid agreements Tennessee, Georgia, Clemson and Florida State before ultimately enrolling at UT.

    Coach questions grad transfer rule

This is a great rule for college as it gives student-athletes an opportunity to earn a chance after completing their undergrad to take move on a better situation if they want to. The coach is thinking about how this rule affects his ability to win game, not how it is an incentive for...

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

Great find. The bolded portion of the snippet below illustrates how the participants in this process are being naive. Smith and his coach don't seem to grasp that building a recruiting class is like taking reservations for a hotel or an airline - there are only so many spots available...

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

I'm pretty sure a recruit can sign multiple - otherwise the financial aid agreement would bind the player to the school. It should work the same as the financial aid agreements that many recruits are signing now before mid-year enrollment. A player can sign as many as he wants as they bind the...

Anybody else watching Trent Richardson's NFL career go down the drain?

It's doubtful that any running backs will go in the first round for quite a while. Even Falcons fans had a negative reaction to a rumor that Gurley might be a 2nd round pick for them. Not many NFL teams run an offense where an elite running back would really make that much difference over a...

Tyren Jones Suspended for Conduct Not to the Standard of the Program

Tyren Jones went to Walton high school in Marietta - it's hardly a rough patch. Kamara is from Norcross, Drake from Powder Springs and Freitag from Buford. All of those places are suburbs and nothing close to a rough patch.

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

From what I gather, the major benefit is that a player is free to change his mind all the up to the day he enrolls in school. In this case, Smith plans to sign the paperwork that binds the school to him (grant-in-aid) but not the papers that bind him to the school (LOI).

Link: Oregon senator upset Ducks' 2015 class has no in-state signees

Another way of looking at this is that California produces more talent than the instate schools can sign. Oregon and other PAC-12 states have gotten used to stocking their rosters with CA talent and cherry picking other states. It's a similar situation that Oklahoma has with Texas.

Anybody else watching Trent Richardson's NFL career go down the drain?

Lacy and Bell rarely have to avoid tacklers in the backfield though. With his spin move, Lacy is also more elusive in those situations. My point is that Trent is not the kind of back that excels at making people miss in the backfield. I'm not saying that Richardson hasn't greatly...

Recruits refusing to sign LOIs - a new trend?

Some interesting news has come from the Roquan Smith saga. He is the 4* LB from Georgia that signed a LOI with UCLA, but refused to fax it in once he learned that an assistant coach was leaving. Smith now states that he won't sign a LOI with the school that he chooses. Instead, he will only...

Anybody else watching Trent Richardson's NFL career go down the drain?

If the "suspension canceling the contract" situation were as clear cut as the articles and tweets imply, the Colts would have cut Richardson already. It has been clear for a good while that the Colts had given up on Richardson and that they aren't really interested in seeing it work out. If...
