Link: Texas Bear Bryant is just an ex-aggie, T-shirt

That bit of folklore came from a Sports Illustrated story by Douglas S. Looney, which quotes not only Bear Bryant ("I was stupid") but Jack Pardee and John David Crow, who said something to the effect that he loved Bear Bryant to death but if Ken Hall had gone to play for Bud Wilkinson at...

Verne and Gary Not So Bad?

That's funny. Whatever the reason, we've been lucky to have him all these years. Great announcer, and seems like a first-class guy. I really hate the way ABC/ESPN has treated him. Though it would pain me, I wish for his sake he'd jump to CBS and do the Saturday afternoon games instead of Verne...

Verne and Gary Not So Bad?

Franklin was calling Oilers games back in the 70's and Texas games (football and basketball) in the 80's, before he went to ESPN. He has been very popular here for a long time, so I suppose ESPN wanted to capitalize on that. He lives in Austin, so maybe he doesn't mind....

Ron Franklin is calling the UGA game today

Regret to say Mr. Franklin is still being abused by ESPN. He used to do the Big 12's Big Monday game on basketball, but has been replaced by none other than Brent Musburger. Unbelievable. People around here are really miffed, but Ron has handled it with his typical class. Fortunately, he's still...

Question: Is Texas recruiting not as good as it could be?

Sorry about that. I thought I heard Verne Lundquist say he was. Maybe he just said he wasn't real highly recruited. Maybe I should not pay much attention to Lundquist... but then I knew that.

I think Bear put Ken Hall at FB, instead of HB, when A&M had the ball. Bear later decided he had outsmarted himself by not doing the obvious and making Hall the primary ballcarrier. So what? Joe Paterno could have had Jim Kelly at Penn State, but Joe wanted to make him a LB.

News Article: From the Houston Chronicle, with some interesting Brown quotes...

The FW S-T is the same rag that wrote that TCU is better than Texas, the Horns are afraid of the Frogs, etc. Guess they got tired of nipping at our heels and decided to start chasing your tires. As soon as the Cowboys start losing again, they'll go back to baiting Jerry Jones and Tony Romo.

Question: Is Texas recruiting not as good as it could be?

Yes, it is not true that Mack has his pick of every high school player in Texas. If you look at a list of the top 100 players in the state every year, about 45-50 will stay in-state, 25-30 will go to Big 12 schools outside Texas, and the rest will go out-of-state and outside the Big 12. A lot of...

Watson beat Saban too. Back when Watson was at UAB and Nick was at LSU.

    Difference between head coaches.

Yeah, like Saban's leading Alabama to defeat at the hands of Louisiana - Monroe just two years ago. Alabama may have been down that year, but the Tide always has much more talent than ULM. Either that, or Texas has been wrongfully criticized for scheduling ULM this year after Arkansas bailed on...

If you guys come up with something clever and unique, UT fans will appreciate it. The Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band) used to make fun of us every year at halftime. Longhorns loved it. (The MOB made fun of A&M at their games, too, but the Aggies didn't find it so funny.) One year, to show their...

Link: McCoy: Offensive line ready to rebound

Alabama gave up 91 passing yds. to V Tech; Nebraska gave up 111, but for a messup on one play. Yeah, I'd say that's comparable. But if you don't want to go behind the numbers, let's just look at the point totals. V Tech scored 24 on Alabama, and just 16 on Nebraska.

Link: McCoy: Offensive line ready to rebound

Yes, but those teams weren't Texas. I honestly don't mean that as braggadocio, so please don't take it that way. This year's offense has its weaknesses, no doubt, but there are things it does well and with respect to those things it probably does them as well as anyone else in the country. I...

Link: McCoy: Offensive line ready to rebound

Well, I'm not thinking so much about wearing your DL out over the course of 60 minutes. I'm talking about limiting substitutions on a particular drive by going no-huddle , hurry-up, etc. If Terrence Cody, for example, gets stuck on the field while Texas keeps hitting passes for 6-8 yards a pop...

Link: McCoy: Offensive line ready to rebound

Fair enough, we all know games such as this are won and lost in the trenches. No quarrel there. In Texas' system, however, the OL doesn't have to hold their blocks very long on their short pass plays. Colt usually lines up in the shotgun, but in every other way it's like a three-step drop. If...

GMac, on the one hand, you keep telling us to quit poor-mouthing. On the other, you post messages like this. Which is it to be?

Tyrod Taylor's a great QB? Who says? Ryan Mallet? Bama got him in his third game with Arkansas. Mallet's got a howitzer hooked to his shoulder but he's still raw, after a full season. Jevan Snead? Regressed badly this year. Tim Tebow? Great QB, great leader, but hardly a great passer. Fact is...

Bama is like 08 Ohio State (hornfans.com)

504, forgive them for they knoweth not what they do. Truth is, I've enjoyed reading many of the posts on this board and have learned a lot about the Alabama team, which I wanted to do. But I've also read where we must put eight in the box to stop your running game and we must double JJ to keep...
