Just some topics for conversation after looking at the depth chart posted on Rolltide.com

1. Will Eric Gray keep the starting RCB job? [Remember Rudy Griffin and Anthony Bryant in 2004]

2. How thin are we at safety? Rashad Johnson made some nice special teams plays in 2005, but the #2 SS and only four scholarship safeties combined on the two-deep for Spring.

3. Will Matt Collins start our season opener at MLB?

4. Which of our defensive linemen from the 2005 signing class will shine? Fanney, 'Zo, Greenwood, Deaderick, and/or Walton?

5. Will Christensen be challenged for the PK job?

6. How will the RB chart look at the end of the Spring?

7. How will the TE chart look at the end of the Spring?

8. Does Mike Johnson win a starting job?

9. Where will Andre Smith fit in to our offensive line chart?

10. Will Nikita Stover be rusty after a year off from football?

My thougths on this.

2. How thin are we at safety? - It seems we are going to need some of the freshman DB's play almost immediately at Safety !!! scary.

3. Will Matt Collins start our season opener at MLB?
No matter how good a kid is, It concerns me when a walkon starts. Collins is clearly a good player, I'm not sure if he's a great player at this level, I'm glad we have him, and I know he will play, but I really want to see a more athletic player bet him out.

9. Where will Andre Smith fit in to our offensive line chart? - I guess this fall we will learn if "cant miss" applies to the offensive line.

10. Will Nikita Stover be rusty after a year off from football? - I could be wrong but I expect Stovar to be an instant hit this year, By all accounts he's got the hands we were missing last year and a quick release off the ball. He was an absolute stud recruit that we unfortunately lost to grades. I'm thrilled to have a shot at finally getting him on the field.

The NCAA has done so much to whittle down rosters with grades and stuff and the NFL has taken so many players early from college teams we now rely so heavily on incoming freshman to play. yet we dont have them in spring. I wish the NCAA would expand fall camp by two weeks and have just the freshman both true, redshirt and greyshirt players come in for two weeks of work. I think it would be a win win situation. I'm not talking about running the players ragged, I'm talking about getting them in there, mostly in shorts and shoulder pads to just see who is ready to play and hopefully teach them the offensive and defensive plays.

1. Gray is good, but his career has beem slowed by hamstring problems. Castille is in the dog house for now, by game day I think Castille is 1st if he rights the ship.
2. Thin, but Shula will work through it with good defensive schemes to offset our weekness.
3. Probably, but look for Hall or Mustain to win out a couple of games into the season.
4. All! Greenwood and Washington are my guesses to show up early.
5. I sure hope so!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Darby, Johns, Coffee, Sharieff and if Ford makes it expect that to change come fall with him taking the 3rd spot and Sharieff getting a look at LB or FB. Of course, Castille will see time there as well as at FB.
7. McCall, Walker, Harvey. Davidson to the line.
8. No. Radar says he has problems protecting the passer.
9. Good question. I think that by mid season he starts, if not sooner.
10. He sets the field ablaze!

Just my 2 cents. RTR!

1 - Eric Gray may well hold that spot.
I don't see SC as a shut down CB, SC is a great nickle back and 3rd CB but is a bit tall for pure CB, may be best suited to gain about 10lbs. and be a safety.

2 - I wish #13 CR was able to be in Spring ball.

3 - possibly the first two to three games;
what about mid-season?

4 - Fanney, Zo & Greenwood, and holpefully the others also.

5 - ???

6 - KD still on top.
If we stay with the same run blocking technique we used in 05, Coffee will still be #2, and JJ may as well be moved to a new position.
If we change to a real run blocking technique, JJ will be #2, and see much playing time in the fall.

7 - If Davidson doesn't move up the chart he may be at a new position for fall.
If he stays at TE, I think he moves up near the top and sees a lot of action in run blocking, and pass blocking if the techniques don't change.

8 - At least until fall, then the new boys report.

9 - for the fall of 06, Andre Smith will likely be starting at LT by game 4.
The only guy I see stoping this is another true freshman Alex Stadler, who is being greately overlooked in the shadow of Smith.
If Smith wins that spot, Stadler will redshirt.
If Stadler wins the LT spot, Smith may still not redshirt but make it into the rotation at guard.
But by 07 or 08 Stadler will likely move Smith to guard.

10 - rust won't stick to this guy!

Andre will play LT and Stadler will play RT. I think Andre will be the starter in game 1 and Stadler will redshirt.

Questions answered

1.No...I expect once SC gets out of the dog house to be #1 at cb
2.Very thin.....It appears we will need solid depht and pt from true frosh.
3. Good chance ,but expect Mustin and Hall to win out with MC still getting PT
4.Greenwood is already there, and expect Fanney,Wash.,and Deaderick also.
5.Yes,but will be pushed.
6.KD,GC,JJ........IMO wish JJ would get some QB reps.
7. McCall,Walker,Davidson. With the addition of a very talented OL class TD is too good of a blocker to be left out at TE b/c Bama still mainly uses the TE for blocking in the 2 and 3 TE sets.
8.No,but will be a factor in 2007 after mastering pass blocking.
9.He will play count on it!I can not wait to see AS suit up b/c he's that good. :biggrin2:
10.Not really....I truely expect him to push for 1st team status,I have been counting the days since we 1st signed him 2 years ago. He's alot like Chad the traitor Jackson in talent.
I have one question to add........next year who will emerge as the next FB after Mc the Train graduates.
