So, what do you guys think of the schedules for the next two years? Next year I think the schedule is great, and could produce some very memorable games at BD. However, 2006 has to be one of the worst schedules in recent memory...the only home game that comes close to being interesting is the opener against Hawaii, we owe them big. Our conference schedule in 2006 will be tough as we play @Arkansas, @Florida, @Tennessee and @LSU. The good news is that we could/should go undefeated at home in 2006.

2005
Sep 3 Middle Tennessee
Sep 10 Southern Miss
Sep 17 at South Carolina*
Sep 24 Arkansas*
Oct 1 Florida*
Oct 15 at Ole Miss*
Oct 22 Tennessee*
Oct 29 Utah State
Nov 5 at Mississippi State*
Nov 12 LSU*
Nov 19 at Auburn*

2006
Sep 2 Hawaii
Sep 9 Vanderbilt*
Sep 16 Louisiana-Monroe
Sep 23 at Arkansas*
Sep 30 at Florida*
Oct 14 Ole Miss*
Oct 21 at Tennessee*
Oct 28 Florida International
Nov 4 Mississippi State*
Nov 11 at LSU*
Nov 18 Auburn*

Well, I don't keep up with other teams like I do the Tide, but I think both schedules set up very well for winning seasons. We won't be completely recovered from the sanctions until 2007 at the earliest, and that's when the AD will begin to upgrade the schedule, IMO.

I've never been a fan that has to have the big names on the schedule for me to get excited about BAMA football.

AT least

in 2006 Florida International will be a division 1-A school. Unlike Western Carolina which was a division 1-AA.
I foresee a few more tough years for Bama. We will not be back to full scholly roster untill 2008.

We'll need these 'lighter' out of conference schedules for a few years. The SEC is a meat-grinder anyway, we'll still be rebuilding to some degree and will need very good winning seasons and good bowl games to help us with our recruiting.

Once we are back to full strength, with great talent starting and great talent backing up the starters....then we can think about scheduling the tougher out of conference teams.

We'll get there as long as certain boosters can control themselves.

In 2006 you say the only home game that "comes close to being interesting is the opener against Hawaii." There is a little game at the end of the season called the Iron Bowl.

I think one thing

that the guys making the schedules are trying to do is to get this team back to a winning mentality. Even if we are playing a few cupcakes, I think the psyche of this program is down a bit. The more wins we get, the better these guys are gonna feel about themselves. Once we get back to winning, the ND's and the PSU's will start to reappear on our schedules. Also, we are in the middle of a major campain of upgrading our facilities. The more home games the better. I'd say it'll be four years before we see a dramatic upgrade to our OOCS. JMHO.

:biga: RTR

Thats a good point. Plus, victories over Middle Tennessee, Utah St, La Monroe, Hawaii, and the like count toward the bowls. It shouldn't hurt us at all as I don't think we will be in the National Championship hunt for the next year or so. We should be competative for the SEc championship, but these wont hurt us there either. I'd hate to be forced to play a Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Southern Cal or one of the big "name" teams and then have to play Florida, UT, Auburn, LSU and the rest of the SEC right now. give it a few years and then we'll see.

Its a good plan for now.

I'm not a huge fan of playing two real weak out of conference games, but when we play at Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, and LSU, I think it is a wise idea to have those teams on the schedule. Unlike some, I always like having one weak out of conference team. I just think it is smart to have a week where you play and are able to build some depth by giving extra playing time. I loved playing UCLA and Oklahoma, but lets face it, we were 0-4 against them. They were exciting ballgames, but we lost ALL of them. I doubt we are going to be a national power the next couple of years, but I do hope we are building our way back to national prominence; therefore, I don't think it will hurt at all to have those two teams. Besides, we have had our butts kicked in recent years by the La. Techs and Central Floridas of the world. Looking at next year's schedule I am going to make a pre-spring practice prediction and say 7-4. The losses are at S. CArolina, Florida, L.S.U., and at Auburn. I predict wins over e lost ALL of them. Maybe I am too pessimistic, but I think that Coach Shula is still at least two years away from an SEC Championship calibre team. Next year's record will probably be similar to Coach Shula's first two years. In the SEC, Florida, Carolina, Ole Miss, and LSU will all have hungry new coaches. Perhaps there will be another Bowl trip for Bama to Nashville or Shreveport. Alabama will go head-to-head with all the conference leaders for most of the games, but fade in overtime, or during closing minutes of the fourth quarter, owing to youth, inexperience, and injuries. The Crimson Tide is still rebuilding.

Listen, nothing wrong with telling it like you see it. However, Alabama's defense should, once again, be highly rated. And were replacing quality with quality. Could see some of our highly touted defensive true freshmen get playing time too.

Offensively, we'll be stronger at the skilled positions than 2004. Experienced WRs, KD, and BC. Look for a quality freshman RB or two to play as well.

Our question marks are Oline and kicking game. I can't speak about the kicking game. The TE and OL situation will be known after spring, not now. I'm excited to see A. Caldwell play at center, and I hope M. Johnson becomes our next 4 year starter. Bottom line, I think its too early to speculate on our weaknesses, and our strengths are there for everyone to see. I have no expectations of an SEC championship team, but Shula has positioned himself to record his first winning season. My expectation is 8-4, but that is if injuries don't rear their ugly head as much as 2004.

Sep 3 Middle Tennessee Tuscaloosa WIN
Sep 10 Southern Miss Tuscaloosa WIN
Sep 17 at South Carolina* Columbia, SC WIN
Sep 24 Arkansas* Tuscaloosa WIN
Oct 1 Florida* Tuscaloosa
Oct 15 at Ole Miss* Oxford, MS WIN
Oct 22 Tennessee*Tuscaloosa
Oct 29 Utah State Tuscaloosa WIN
Nov 5 at Mississippi State* Starkville, MS WIN
Nov 12 LSU* Tuscaloosa
Nov 19 at Auburn* Auburn, AL WIN

Thats my initial 8 wins, and the other three are at BDS. Why the pessimism?

I have never been known as a optimist, but here it goes anyway. IF, and I know that is a big word, Brodie would have stayed healthy we would have been ranked in the top ten and played in a BCS bowl.

I guess it's easy to over look the fact that we GAVE away games againest, Teennesse, South Carolina, and Arkansas. We played LSU tough and who knows what would have happened againest Auburn with the threat of a deep ball behind center.

We were FORCED to run the ball 85% of the time when Croyle went down. When the situation arose for our QB to make a play and keep a drive alive, or connect for a game chnaging play, we threw the game away to a wide open CB.

I am not trying to bash anybody, but let's face it, we had nothing behind center, so as goes Brodie, so goes this team next year.

It's amazing how many people have forgotten that already.

Watching Alabama play after Brodie and Ray went down was extremely difficult. I think most of the pessimists, a.k.a. "realists" , are those who suffered the worst in watching this. So much so that they have already written off next season as another injury plagued, 6-6 or 5-7 year. Let's try to look at things with a healthy Bama team next year and take injuries as they come (if/when they come).

A healthy Bama team will be dangerous. Very dangerous.
