Signee Kyle Cofield, a RHP from Southside, went to the Braves in the 8th round (257th overall).


It wouldn't be a draft without Aubie Schuerholz trying to steal some of our recruits.

Trey Shields has just been taken by Oakland in the 9th round (281 overall).

The first Crimson Tide player selected is none other than Trey Shields, who went to the A's in the 9th round (281st overall).

After pitching a whopping 18 innings this season as one of the many capable, yet forgotten arms in the Tide bullpen, I think it's safe to say that Trey will sign. If he does, I can't say that I blame him.

Best of luck to Trey. Hopefully he'll get more of a chance with Oakland than he did with us.

No, not at all, baseball23. I started the thread with the intention that others would update as the draft progresses.

In the 11th now and no other signees or players taken. Looks like our chances of getting Miers Quigley to school are improving.

Trey Shields was one of the Alabama Drafts that has been lost to another
team. This hasn't been the first time he was drafted. He chose to pursue a degree and help out a great school. Too bad he wasn't given the chance to do so. I suspect he will not pass this one up. You never know how the ball will fall. Good luck to him . :cool2:

I read this morning that Quigley has had problems with his elbow this spring. Nothing major from what I understand, but I hope he heals soon.

Opponents will face some very good pitching, potentially, when they face the Tide next season.

Quigley was shut down late in the year with what was reported to be biceps tendinitis. That, combined with an unfortunate off-the-field incident, pretty much caused him to fall from the first round. If the kid's arm gets healthy, he could be a significant contributor as a freshman. He's a big lefty with a smooth delivery, armed with low- to mid-90's heat and a sharp-breaking hook.

The Cardinals opened up Day 2 of the draft by snagging a pair of Tide signees, taking Miers Quigley (LHP/Roswell, GA) in the 19th (590) and Shaun Garceau (RHP/Royal Palm Beach, FL) in the 20th (620).

Spencer Pennington selected by the Brewers in the 32nd (955).

Former Tide infielder Mark Haske went in the 23rd to his home state-Tigers.
