I know we haven't finished the 05 season but i thought it would be interesting to see how the nation thought about 06.

I feel we will take a step backwards. We got replace a lot of key people on D. Personally I cant wait to see these new D lineman that we have redshirted this year. If these guys can live up to the hype then we might have another solid D by the end of 06 led by our front 4 instead of our back 7. It still amazes me how our D has been so great the last 2 year without any All-American type players on the D-Line. IMO, this back 7 is as good if not better than the 92 bunch.

The biggest concern for 06 is replacing Brodie Croyle. I'm not sure BC will ever be metioned in the same breath as Stabler, Namath or Barker because of all the injuries and lack of hardware in the trophy case. I'm guessing it will be a interesting Spring. JPW, Jimmy Barnes, Jimmy Johns and Tebow battling it out for the starting qb job. I would thing by summer pratice that the battle needs to be down to 2 of them. Sure dont need to go into summer pratice with 4 person race for QB. We have all our wideout's back. Notice I said wideouts instead of receiver. Until they stop dropping so many balls I refuse to reconginize them as a receiver. These guys have a chance to be the best in the SEC or even nation. They aren't there yet. Oh boy here we go, the O-line. IMO the 1 thing that we got to do here is decide how we are going to teach blocking, do it day 1 of spring and still be doing at the end of the Auburn game in 06. Just cant keep changing it from week to week from game to game. Shula's got to decide how he want's it done and make sure everybody is on the same page. If they're not then put them on the road. I also wouldn't be suprised by the end of the year if 2 true freshman aren't starting with 3 seeing playing time in 06. We've got to get better here.

This got a little longer than I ment for it to but I think 7-4 at best for 06.

i THINK...

you guys have been smokin it up in Irvin's car.

Our defense loses not only its core, but also its heart. even though we will recruit and fill in some of those holes, we are gonna have to score a lot more points on offense than we did this year. that is WITHOUT our senior QB; WITH an O-Line that will be experienced but still VERY questionable; and WITH wide receivers who i would not trust with MY dozen eggs.

the shining point on offense will be the RB's (Darby, Coffee and Johns, et al), with possibly Tebow or Smelley thrown in. however, it is hard for me to believe Tebow starts as a freshman when it took Brodie a while to learn the offense.

i say, give us the cupcakes, which are all the home-games except AUB. ARK is a tough road game, especially when you throw in a QB's first road game -- with our losses on defense, that will prob be a close loss. FLA is likely a loss -- they will be top 5 next year. Tenn, assuming they get all their players off probation (jail, not NCAA), will be better than this year. LSU will reload, though i am not planning on going to Baton Rouge (i have been there twice, we lost both games) so i give us a maybe, but likely loss. Auburn, like ARK, is going to run run run, but they will be able to pass which will kill us.

7-5
or
8-4 with some lucky breaks

Should Wins 7: Hawaii, Vandy, ULM, Duke, Ole Miss, Fla Intl, Miss State

Others 5: Arky, Fla, Tenn, LSU, Auburn

We should win @ least 7 and maybe get 2 out of the 'others' category for a 9-3 season, but that wasnt an option so i chose 9-2 and explained my choice :)

I agree with you on the first seven but am optimistic that we steal three of the other five. The order of most likely to beat: Tn, Ark, AU, Fla, LSU

I think 9-3 with a chance at 10-2

Here's how I see it breaking down:

Non conference games: Hawaii, Louisiana-Monroe, Duke, Florida International
These four games are all wins. Some will say 'watch out for Hawaii' due to it being the first game of the season and us breaking in a new defense and new QB. I say hogwash. The Rainbows are dreadful off of the island (yes, they'll always be the Rainbows to me). ULM? Blowout. Duke - I like this game. Chance to blow out a BCS conference team. They're awful. FIU - easy win.

Conference home games: Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn
Vandy - Cutler's gone, they're back to being same old Vandy. We might play them close (like we always do), but we'll pull away at the end. Ole Miss - this game might concern me if it were in Oxford. It isn't, and OM will be very suspect again. Win here. Miss State - see Ole Miss above. Win. Auburn - will be a difficult game. Auburn is reloading down there year after year and will always be tough. It's time for Bama to beat the Tigers in Bryant-Denny. This is my swing game and the difference between 9 and 10 wins.

Conference road games: Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, LSU
Arkansas - will be a tough game, on the road and our first real test of the season. Arkansas has McFadden, who can make any team a threat. But I see Bama winning this game, and with relative ease. Not a three touchdown game, but a game in which we just kind of lead by about 10-13 points from the second quarter on and are never threatened the rest of the way. Florida - they will remember the whippin' we put on them a year earlier and will probably be as fired up for this game as any all season. Loss here. Tennessee - UT struggled mightily this year, and Erik Ainge has been zapped of any kind of confidence he ever had. You wonder if this kid will ever recover totally. They will bounce back and have a more UT-like year, but won't be great. Probably about 7 or 8 wins. I think we win this one. LSU - Jamarcus Russell is a year older and a year more mature. Saban gave Miles all sorts of talent down there and they will be tough. I see a loss here, but Miles will have had a whole year to try and mess things up, so you never know.

So, there you have it. Wins over Hawaii, Vandy, ULM, Arkansas, Duke, Ole Miss, UT, FIU, and Miss St. Losses to Florida and LSU. Auburn is the swing game.

Hawai'i will be a handful, count on it, but we **should** win. Nervous game, due to essentially a new defense. Don't think that UH loses anything hardly, so it should be a tougher game than most think IMO.

We should beat Duke, FIU, ULA-M. Should beat Ole Miss, M$U and Vandy in Conference at home. That's 7 wins.

Dicey? Arky will be a handful on the road, but is our best chance of winning a road game.

Ut depends on whether or not they get their split personality corrrected...they have enough talent to be tough. Knoxville's a hard place to win. Toss up, but I give the edge to loss.

Florida and LSU are probably losses.

The Boogs at Home? All out war, but we have to get over the mental block we seem to have against them.

All of the above is based on the assumption that we'll have an O line that can at least DELAY the other team to some small degree...play like we did the last four games of this season, and we'll be lucky to win four.

Final Record?

7 -5, 8-4 if we pull an upset.

Naw, wasn't me. That was his "brother's"! :)

The question is are we rebuilding or reloading. I think we are somewhere in between, with a lean to actual reloading. The recruiting has been great, and we have some studs waiting in the wings on D. The O will be fine, with the line actually coming together either in bowl practice, spring, or fall. Remember, we have some redshirts and incoming guys that will be able to contribute. If we can't find some guys out of that bunch, then 7-5, 8-4. I think 9-3 is more realistic. I want all of the people that really thought we would be 9-2 regular season this year to raise your hand. I see... (By the way, I'm not raising mine, though I thought it possible) But you were quick to criticize those last two games ad nauseam. No need for reply, because you know who you are... :p

I think we need vast improvement on the OL. otherwise it could get ugly. If we do get improvement I can see us being a more balanced team in 05. Its hard to see us winning as many games but we might stand a better chance of beating Auburn or LSU with more balance on both sides of the ball. For sure the new starters will make mistakes, but hopefully they will firm up by mid season. It will help that some of these new starters have been around the program a year or two, two years back we took em stright from high school and put um right on the first team, with predictable results, Shula is slowly getting past that situation.

Looking at all the personnel we're losing I'll say 7-5 is what I expect. We're going to be breaking new personnel in on defense, at QB, and probably have new players on the OL. The two games that scare me most are Arkansas and Florida. Arkansas will be our first big test of the year, and it'll be on the road. I'd look for them to be significantly improved next year (in spite of Nutt). I think UF is going to be coming after us hard after what happened at BDS this year. Hopefully, a young team will be able to withstand the swamp. IMO, by the time UT, LSU, and AU roll around we'll be more settled in, and have a chance in those games. I said 7-5, and hope for more. In 2007 I think we'll be reloading, and the stage could be set for a very special year.
