I looked at the list for the junior All-Star game. Some of those players were placed on there because of the coaches coaching in the game. Out of those players, who looks like they may be a "big time" recruit in Alabama next year?

Are there any other big time names we should look for out of the state of Alabama?
What does the Southeast look like for next year?

Maybe someone knows.
Thanks for the help.

Rivals 100 Juniors to Watch

It's still too early to tell what direction we will go next year. Of the ones on that list, I'd fully expect us to be involved with most of the kids from FL, MS, and AL.

Specifically, I haven't heard that much. I've heard that the OH QB Chris Smith has some interest in us. LB Marc Tyler of CA already has a Bama offer. AL DE Sidell Corley is pretty highly regarded as well.

When I watched the Nease/Hoover HS game on ESPN QB Ross Wilson and RB Dennis King both looked good to me. I have not heard much about any of the other players yet.

AHSAA North-South Football All-Stars Named (11-16-05)
This marks the second December date for this in-state game, which had been played as a part of the annual All-Star Sports Week held each July until 2004 when renovations to Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl forced the move to Troy. Then the 2005 summer game was moved back to December of last year, also at Troy.

Bailey also announced that the game of 36-player squads will again feature high school juniors, following the pattern of all other current Sports Week all-star games. The game had featured graduated seniors since its inception in 1948 until the last December’s contest.

2007 Standouts?

RTO, Ping, Surfer, and anyone else 'in the know'; are there any early indications as to who we should keep an eye out for regarding next year's class? I think next year's class will be just as important as this years as far as getting the talent level back up after probation.

As far as in state goes, what will Alabama be pumping out next year? OL, DE, LB, etc?

Last, what will be our main concerns for next year's class? It seems we are starting to rebuild our depth like we should, so maybe there isnt one single position we need to overstock next year? Maybe we can take a few from each position, and be very selective in doing so?

TIA

Selma, I merged your post with this one to help you with some discussion.

I haven't looked to see where we will be at numbers wise or depth wise.

We should be able to be more selective, but I don't think 25 will be a possibility next year.....

When do the big recruiting sites release their rankings for the new recruiting class? Spring?

I'm hardly "in the know". I gather information from a couple of different recruiting sites and then do my best to keep those at this site up to date on what's happening if I can answer a question or two.

But, to answer your question about how many we will sign, I would have to know how many scholarship juniors we have on the squad. We only have 13 guys that were recruited scholarship guys who are juniors, and I would imagine we may have a couple more who were originally walkons that are now on scholly. No one likes to talk about it, but attrition is a part of the deal and you're destined to lose one or two guys (if not more) every off-season. So, taking all that into consideration, we probably won't be able to bring in more than 20 guys in the 2007 class. Like RTO said, that will allow us to be more selective in taking commits next year.

I've taken the liberty of going to Bamaonline and these are the 2007 guys that Bama is at least listed with. Take into account that it's early in the process for these guys and often the interest is one way (commit interested in school, not always the other way around). Here are the guys by position (go to Bamaonline, football database, and make sure the year is on 2007, and you can check these guys out):

Quarterback
Jason Munns - Kennewick, WA *early Rivals 100*
G.J. Kinne - Canton, TX
Cameron Newton - Atlanta, GA
Rocco Pentello - Westerville, OH
Zach Smith - Altoona, AL

Running Back
Elliott McGaskin - Mobile, AL
Lamar Stewart - Tappahannock, VA

Wide Receiver
Chris Carter - Butler, AL
John Keye - Jackson, GA *early Rivals 100*
Marquis Maze - Birmingham, AL
Deonte Thompson - Belle Glade, FL *early Rivals 100*

Tight End
Rob Gronkowski - Williamsville, NY *early Rivals 100*

Offensive Line
Josh Marks - Catawissa, PA
Chaz Ramsey - Madison, MS
Caleb Thomas - Decatur, AL
Devon Waller - Atlanta, GA
Rodney Hudson - Mobile, AL
Ryan Pugh - Hoover, AL

Defensive End
Conrad Obi - Loganville, GA (same HS as Zo Washington)
K.J. Wright - Olive Branch, MS
Sidell Corley - Mobile, AL *early Rivals 100*
Nicholas Fairley - Mobile, AL

Defensive Tackle
Adrian Campbell - Richardson, TX
Rolando Melancon - Lutcher, LA *early Rivals 100*

Linebacker
Kyle Jackson - McDonough, GA
Pat Lazear - Bethesda, MD
Jestin Williams - Carrollton, AL
Demantise Hill - Olive Branch, MS
Marc Tyler - Westlake Village, CA *early Rivals 100*

Defensive Back
Edwin Reed - Destrehan, LA
Eugene Clifford - Cincinnati, OH
Stefoin Francois - Reserve, LA *early Rivals 100*
Harrison Smith - Knoxville, TN
Ryan Williams - Mobile, AL *early Rivals 100*

Again, all of these guys are not guys that Alabama will neccessarily persue, but rather these guys have told Rivals that they have an interest in Alabama. That interest may or may not be mutual. The list will grow tremendously, probably mostly after signing day wraps up and over the course of the Spring and Summer. Marc Tyler (LB) is the only one of these kids that claim a Bama offer as of now. The DE from GA who attends the same high school as Lorenzo Washington is coached by former Bama player Mickey Conn (don't know if you remembered that from when Zo was recruited).

Desmond Jennings had a great season this year in JUCO.
Interesting... Does anyone on here know if we will bring him in? I know at one time he was (everyone remembers) an academic casualty and was going pro baseball. Are we going to actively recruit him back in if he has the grades? I was surprised when he signed when all of the speculation was that he would not. With his talent, I would not mind seeing him back in the fold.

Desmond ended up signing with Itawamba CC. If we sign Andre Smith then I think it's a given we will try to sign DJ again.
Is there a connection? Are they related? I probably missed something, so pardon my ignorance... :)

Like has been said Ross Wilson could be a top recruit next year but size will hurt him the most. Same goes for Terrance Wilkes from Wadley. He set the single season TD record in Alabama this year and could possibly break Mac Campbell's rushing record. Size will kill him also but he is a GREAT back that probably wont get the pub he deserves.
