I'm thinking 8-4, but 9-3 is a very good possibility. I think that it'll be a frustrating season like last year but we should win one more game or two with better coaching and some increased conditioning. I think that we'll also split our big games (Arky, UGA, FSU, UT, LSU, AU) and win our bowl game.

All of our big games are real question marks for me; they can go either way. I think that early on, the team will struggle more, but we should be improve each week (my only expectation) and thus by the time the second half the season starts, we should be rolling pretty well. I hope I'm wrong about the losses though.

ark and auburn will be huge games. i think we're a favorite to beat ark, but they could very well deal us an emasculating blow by running the ball all over us. if so, the loss of swagger could really be trouble the following couple of weeks. i expect us to be much improved by the end of the season and give aub all they can handle. a bad loss there will be a nasty setback going into what will be a very long offseason.

The Great Season: 9-4

that is a great season - wow we have really gone down hill....Did you mean to post that the UAB board..

A 9-4 season at Alabama is a GREAT season. Holy smoke that is very, very sad. I guess the Poulan bowl would be reason to celebrate

Losing four games is not a GREAT season unless you are UAB

Yeah, actually we have gone a bit downhill dude. But that doesn't mean that we'll continue to be realistically expecting 9-4 seasons for very long. It takes quite a bit of luck and good breaks to have an actual great season (winning 10+ games) and honestly, we could get some of those big breaks this coming season. The 2005 team had a lot of good breaks go their way before their luck ran out against LSU. Just because a lot of us are saying 9-4 is good enough right now doesn't mean we think CMS is still coaching. You know very well that if CMS was still coaching, we wouldn't be expecting 9-4; it'd be closer to 6-6.

CNS is not going to overhaul this program in a magic wand. No one can. CUM did it because he had great athletes in the cupboard from Coach Zook's lights out recruiting and also, CUM can coach and gameplan very well. This was evident in being able to somewhat run the ball even though they didn't have a true running back, probably ran the ball better than we did if they won the national championship. Same thing with Coach Carroll at USC. His predecessor, Paul Hackett, was doing some good recruiting but couldn't coach them. Bring Carroll and his staff, and they won a piece of the national championship his third year.

It's going to take some time. So stop lamenting about 9-4 predictions as if we're in the dumps. We'll be back in the elite eventually, but CNS needs to get his players in the program first.

However the word I had problems with is GREAT - 9-4 is not a GREAT season I don't care what the circumstances, IMHO 9-4 is not GREAT

9-4 is OK for a first year coach without any good athletes but it's not GREAT
IMHO of course Great has different meanings for all of us.

as you stated "to have an actual great season (winning 10+ games)"

so we agree 9-4 is not GREAT - That all I was saying

Normally I would be conservative since we have a first year HC but I believe this team has some talent and can make some noise. I think winning 9 games is very possible.

i would be happy with 8 wins, but like to see more of course. we have no idea, what this group of players can accomplish, even with saban as coach. the offense could be really strong, if one of the rbs steps up. it is dependent on the offensive line again. they have to and i mean have to do the job up front. the good news, in the applewhite offense, wilson will be in the shotgun enough to keep the defense honest. we must rush well enough to keep defenses honest. we have the best receiving corp in the sec. with protection, and another year with mr. wilson it should be a thingof beauty. i think we may flip flop with the offense doing the job, and the defense havin some problems early. def line and linebackers inexperienced. depth unknown. if they can win 8 or 9 games i would be real happy.

We have depth, tallent, s&c and experience issues. Therefore, a 9-4 season would be great. Now to have 9-4 expectations every year would be sad. I will not hold myself to such low standards year after year.
I feel confident that CNS is gonna bring our program back up to a level of great respect and we will be in the hunt for the SEC crown as well as the NC but it ain't gonna happen this year. Next year, though, I'm thinking SEC.
