Re: 2008 ELITE 11 (July 21-24)/ A.J. McCarron impressed on both Day 1 and Day 2

Would the AU fans feel uneasy if they knew that I throw a tighter spiral than Ray Cotton... left-handed?
No. They would say he has exceptional character and that tubbs would coach him up...

Re: 2008 ELITE 11 Quarterback Camp (July 21-24)/ A.J. McCarron impressed on Day 2

Analysts Tom Lubinbill and Elite 11 QB coach Tee Martin both really like A.J. McCarron.

Brehaut stands out on day three of Elite 11

Tom Luginbill:
"If I had to pick my three favorite guys, Brehaut would definitely be one of them and I would put Aaron Murray and A.J. McCarron in that group as well."
Tee Martin:
We already knew how good McCarron was but I'm not sure any of us thought he would be this good. He may have the quickest release in the camp, takes great drops and has a strong arm. He knows where to go with the ball and makes quick reads.

"The one thing he needs is to keep getting stronger," Martin said. "He needs to put on weight, especially in his lower body. That will help him stand up to some of the hits he'll take in the SEC, but he has everything else."

For some reason the Rivals.com analyst Barry Every does not like McCarron quite as much as some of the other observers and coaches.

Elite 11: Inside look at Day Three
Rivals.com staff recruiting analyst Barry Every discusses all 12 of the quarterbacks and what they bring to the table with just one more workout left in the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

AJ McCarron, 6-4, 189 PQB Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's
McCarron really had an excellent day passing today. His only disappointment was coming so close to hitting the money ball yet coming up short. McCarron is definitely making a push toward being in the top six quarterbacks in this event.

I was very impressed to read this...........

There is hardly any mention of A.J. McCarron in this article. Just some accuracy stats at the bottom of the page.

Murray garners Elite 11 MVP honors
The final workout of the 2008 Elite 11 on Thursday put a marked emphasis on competition. After three days of intensive throwing and drill work, the focus shifted more to seven-on-seven work and accuracy competitions. As was the case on Day 3, some of the quarterbacks continued to separate themselves form the field.

The workout began with a good old-fashioned race between Tajh Boyd, Eugene Smith, Aaron Murray and coach Tee Martin. The race was extremely close, with Boyd just edging the field at the end. Despite a late start, Martin showed he can still move with the young guys like he did in the late '90s at Tennessee.

EA Sports Elite 11: The Final Analysis
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – After four days of competition, Rivals.com recruiting analyst Barry Every grades all 12 quarterbacks at the EA Sports Elite 11 in five important categories – arm strength, footwork, athleticism, accuracy and release. The scores are based only on on-the-field performance at the Elite 11 Camp. Keep in mind, the Elite 11 is only one evaluation tool Rivals.com will use to rank prospects. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Scoring system: 20 points and above: 5-Star performance; 17-19 points: 4-Star performance ; 14-16 points: 3-Star performance.

AJ McCarron, 6-4, 189 PQB Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's
Arm Strength: 3
Footwork: 4
Athleticism: 3
Accuracy: 4
Release: 4
Total: 18
Conclusion: McCarron excelled with accuracy, superior footwork and a very quick release. Once he fills out; his arm will naturally become stronger and he will be an able to make any throw that will ever be required of him. The Crimson Tide should be excited about this gunslinger's potential.

Tide commit makes most of Elite 11 trip to California
Maybe it's the floppy dark brown hair. Maybe it's the tall and somewhat skinny frame. Maybe it's just the fact that he's a humble kid from Alabama.

Or perhaps it's a combination of all three. Either way, McCarron's coaches and fellow participants in the Elite 11 quarterback camp in Aliso Viejo, Calif., couldn't help but be reminded of a certain former Crimson Tide signal-caller.

"They all were saying 'you look just like Brodie Croyle' and all that, but I'm actually just as big as Brodie was and I'm taller now," McCarron said on Friday. "And I think my frame will hold a lot more weight than what his did. But that's not a bad thing to be compared to him. He's in the NFL as a starting quarterback and making a lot of money."

AJ #3 on the list in terms of points on the final day of the camp. And with time to grow and get stronger, you gotta be excited about how much better he can get.

Elite 11 individual highlight reels (Video)
A dozen of the nation's best passers competed in the EA Sports Elite 11 quarterback camp in Aliso Viejo (Calif.) last week, and Rivals.com AMP was there to check out the action. The players competed four days, going through passing drills as well as plenty of chalk talk. Check out how each player fared throwing the ball the first two days of camp.

Is A.J.'s throwing motion (semi-side armed) something that will be corrected by Coach Mac or will they be happy with the fact that he has good accuracy and velocity and not mess with it?

We've got a bunch of high-ranked guys, though the rankings don't really mean anything," McCarron said. "There's a lot of politics that play into the whole rankings part. But I feel like it should be another special class, maybe a Top 3 class again, especially if we get the guys that I think we are about 99 percent sure we're going to get. When we get those guys, it's going to make our class that much more special."
This sounds promising! :)

California quarterback camp features future stars
That's a snapshot of a lesson at the EA Sports Elite 11 quarterback camp. Twelve of the nation's top high school quarterbacks gathered in the sun-scorched San Joaquin Hills for four days of intense instruction on the field and in the classroom.

"Whatever they say, you're all eyes and ears, listening to whatever you can and taking anything you can in," said St. Paul Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.) School's A.J. McCarron, an Alabama recruit.
