It very well may hurt us playing north texas and chat, but we will be a top 10 preseason team so if we win all our games I dont see it being a factor.

Well, what i ment by that sometimes small schools are ok because everybody plays them, but Chatt. is a div. 1AA school. That's stooping to the barn's level.
At least W. Kentucky, and Tulane are div. 1A programs
No it isn't. When the schedule expanded to 12 games, most teams in major conferences added a 1AA team as their extra game. Off the top of my head just this year, Oklahoma played Chattanooga, Florida played The Citadel, and LSU played App. State. It worked out ok for Oklahoma and Florida and playing Western Kentucky did not hurt us.

Stephen has it right. Everyone in the SEC is now scheduling 1-AA programs. For the 2009 season, nine of the twelve SEC teams have a 1-AA opponent, and Ole Miss will be adding one shortly, so that will make ten teams with a 1-AA opponent.

Only two teams in the entire SEC will not have a 1-AA opponent on the schedule in 2009: Tennessee and LSU. However, Tennessee has Western Kentucky -- who will be playing their first year of 1-A football this year -- and LSU, even without a 1-AA opponent, still has the easiest non-conference schedule in the entire SEC.

I'm not a fan of these 1AA teams on our schedule. There are plenty of 1A cellar dwellers out there we could buy wins from. They are easy opponents and we get some respect for not selling out.

Just because AU and Tennessee and the rest of the SEC has stooped to that level doesn't necessarily mean that we should. That's just my opinion.

I actually think our schedule this year may be as tough or tougher than last year's. I mean Clemson wasn't a terrible team, but average.

Va Tech may replace Georgia as our toughest reg season game, and I think they'll be much better next year. Their defense is always gonna be there, and I would expect their special teams to improve also. Truth is, this was a rebuilding year for them, and they did a pretty good job of it. Their offensive playmakers left from the year before and I'd expect it to mature next season. They return 15 starters on offense and defense, and the green QB is going to be a 3rd year starting JR who has really dangerous feet. I think Va Tech will be a top 10 team again next season and finish that way. But if our O line clicks from game 1, I think our rbs and our defense carries us to a victory.

But Ole Miss will be better and compete for the division, LSU will be better (especially if they get a quality DC or just improve in that area and I'd say they will compared to this year) and expect better QB play from either Jefferson or Lee, Tennessee has the talent capable of an immediate 10 win turnaround if Kiffin can get that offense on the same page (those guys were just confused) and the defense is set. Auburn I don't see being capable of a 10 win turnaround, but while many will disagree with me, I think they do have the talent (but it really needs to be coached up) to win maybe 8 and I do expect them to be better regardless (they can't get much worse). USCe has a good defense and their QBs will be more mature, and are a team I'd expect to be at least a 9 win team out of the gate, if their new OL coach can get something from that unit then Spurrier may really turn them around. And Kentucky should be a bowl team again with an improved offense. And Arky will be better for sure offensively, their defense will keep them from being a contender for the division, but their offense may be one of the better ones in the conference next season.

I just think this was a big time rebuilding year in the conference with 2 perennial dangers in Tenn/AU payed for some terrible OC hires and LSU payed for a bad DC decision/hire or lack thereof, and by the time we played Ole Miss/Arky they were still really struggling with consistency. While the schedule probably won't be frightening, the conference should be better even if only a little, thus the schedule should be tougher and adding an improved Va Tech can at the very least make up for a Georgia team that wasn't what it was cracked up to be. And besides, we're gonna be a bit less experienced on the offensive end, so its not a cakewalk.
