No offense, but I completely disagree. We are losing a LOT of starters on a top notch D. Right now, we lose our entire starting DL, 3 of 4 starting LBs (I expect Ro to go pro) and 4 of our top 6 DBs (2 starters, nickel back in MJ and dime back in Sharrief), with the possible departure of KJ to the NFL too. That is a lot of talent leavingand while CNS has recruited very well and we are almost to the point of reloading rather than rebuilding, losing those seniors is going to hurt. I don't think we have a bad year, but 11-1 is my optimistic prediction with a more realistic one of 9-3/ 10-2.
I didn't say they were being replaced by better players, I meant the players have more potential and they have had time to learn Saban's system. Let's see who is being replaced in respects to our standard 3-4 defense.

Washington (DE): probable replacement is Luther Davis. Davis was the number 3 prospect in Louisiana and the number 14 D line prospect in the nation of his year.

Brandon Deadrick(DE): probable replacement is Marcell Dareus, who has already shown his ability in our four-man front. No worries there.

Terrence Cody (NG): probable replacement Josh Chapman, who was the number 12 prospect in Alabama, which is hardly shabby considering the talent in Bama that year.

For linebackers I'll just go over some of our stock. Being replaced is McClain, Reamer (who wasn't expected to do much), and Anders.

Hightower will be back next year, and if he's at one hundred percent we should get over McClain's absence pretty quickly...

Jerrell Harris: number 3 linebacker in the country in his year, and next year he'll be a junior. He's had all that time to learn Saban's system.

Tana Patrick: ranked number 5 run-stopping linebacker in the country, he'll be a sophmore, and should mature a lot in the off season.

Courtney Upshaw: he was the number 4 defensive end prospect in the country but is expected to play linebacker. He'll be a junior, too.

Now to our corner stock. We're losing Javy and Marquis. Javy will hurt, certainly. Hopefully Kareem will be back.

Dre: nuff said.

Woodson: ranked number 2 player out of the state of Mississippi.

B.J. Scott: ranked number 1 athlete in the nation for his year. Will be a junior.

Phelon: number 13 CB in the nation in his year, transfer from LSU.

Now to the safeties. Barron will be back. Justin Woodall is leaving, but he was playing primarily because of experience. He'll probably be replaced by Robby Green, who was number 7 in the state of Louisiana in his year. He'll be a junior.

So the case is that most of the starters we are losing will be replaced by more talented players. They won't be as effective early on of course, and there will be some kinks to work out, but towards the end of the season I expect them to be about the same level. 2011 will really be the year for them, most of them will still be here. I expect our offense to be better next year and think our defense is capable of aiding in a perfect record.

A run like the one we've had is tough to keep up...with the number of quality opponents we're playing on the road it's hard for me not to see a loss or two. If we weren't losing so many starters on defense I'd feel differently, but I just think we have a god chance of slipping up against either Arkansas, LSU or Tennessee.

What is everyone's expectations of next year's season?

9/4 SAN JOSE STATE
9/11 PENN STATE
9/18 at Duke
9/25 at Arkansas
10/2 FLORIDA
10/9 at South Carolina *
10/16 OLE MISS *
10/23 at Tennessee *
11/6 at LSU *
11/13 MISSISSIPPI STATE *
11/20 GEORGIA STATE
11/26 AUBURN *
* Notes opponent has bye the week before

When i first looked at this, i thought it looked a little easy. Then i found out that 6 of our 8 SEC teams we play have the week off prior to us. Bama struggled this season to teams who had a bye week before playing them. How do you think our team will fare next year, losing players like Cody, Arenas, and possibly McClain?
12-0 and Im Going to the Florida game

I agree that the guys stepping up will have been higher rated prospects, but experience (and knowledge of the system) is very tough to replace and hard to predict. We'll have three 5* players at CB (Dre, BJ, and Milliner) next fall, but none have spent much time in the system, so blown assignments could lead to big plays. I also think we'll see our DL take at least a half-step back, not from talent, but from a depth standpoint. Our 2nd team DL this year is absolutely sick for a 2nd team and they'll be good starters, but we lose that incredible depth we have this year; we'll have talented players as backups next year (Square, Murphy, etc) but another unproven entity to worry about. I am probably more worried than I should be b/c of how our teams played b/t 2000 and 2007 and how player progression wasn't evident. I am sure our players will improve greatly with more reps and another off season; I'm just very cautiously optimistic. No doubt the potential is there, I'm just waiting on spring/ summer reports before I get my hopes of another undefeated season up.

I don't recall any team having to play half their season with the opposition getting twice as much prep time and twice as much rest. Every single SEC team we play after mid season will be getting an extra week to work on surprise packages JUST for Alabama. The SEC has basically set up Alabama to fail.

Next years team would have to be better than this one to survive this undefeated.

iirc, before the 2008 season, the conventional wisdom around the board was that 2010 would be the year when we would become "great". i'm saying 12-0 until proven otherwise.

i also don't think that UT will be that big of a threat this next year. i think they are losing a ton of talent this year.

CNS has said more than once that the average fan doesn't realize what a big loss Square was for this season. I think he feels pretty good about the 2's for next year.

Also, most of the players that CNS has recruited and are waiting their playing time will have the same amount of time in CNS system as the entire team had last year.

No one is saying we won't miss a beat. No one is taking anything away from the incredible talent and heart that our upper classmen have right now. Believe me, I love these guys for what they've done for BAMA.

The point is that the days of BAMA having an exceptional athlete at a particular position and when that player graduates going back to average or below average talent at that position are over. Ro is a once in a lifetime talent at LB, but there happens to be another once in a lifetime type talent at LB out this year with an injury. There are a few others on this team that could develop into that type of player. Look what happened when Glenn Coffee graduated, Mark stepped up and has Trent pushing him.

This is something that many of us younger BAMA fans aren't accustom to and will have to get used to. Its not taking away from the love of our current players to say we will continue to get better.

If your expectations are lowered, your results will also be. Always set the bar high and strive for it. There is no shame in striving for perfection and just coming up a little short. However, striving for lower expectations and meeting them is not that great.

I think you're right from the perspective of a player or coach, but as a fan there's no shame in looking at things realistically. Ask Jess N.

Everyone on this board would like to see 12-0 but history, attrition and scheduling logically suggest it's unlikely to happen for a third straight year.
