2011 The year of the Vacated Champions

After UConn won the BB National Championship last night, I was thinking about how the NCAA just let a team that was currently on NCAA probation play for and win a NC. Sound familiar, *U may not have been on probation, but everyone knew that the game was tinted by the NCAA's idiotic decision to let the Camster continue to play. Both schools have been accused of serious of recruiting violations which puts their entire seasons at risk.

My money is on the NCAA vacating both major mens championship before this is all over. Either the NCAA takes these problems seriously by handing out meaningful punishment or collegiate sports as a whole become a joke.

I told my wife the same thing this morning. I would not be surprised if both were vacated before all is said and done. Think it is kind of funny that last year you had two of the classiest programs in BAMA & DUKE win titles and this year two of the sleaziest in AU & UCONN.

We will never be ashamed of how we got our National Championship's.
Auburn's Title is tainted by $$$ and cheating. A few API idiots are still beating the drums for their 'Scampionship',
the rest are starting to get strangely silent. :)
It's hard for Auburn to really celebrate something they had to buy.

The first thing I thought about when Auburn won the NC was that the theme for college football 2011 was "Cheat to Win." Especially after Ohio St. also got away with major infractions. Now I have to extend that from college football to college sports.

As far as us never being ashamed of how we won our NC's, I agree. However, I would never think for a second that Auburn fans, as a whole, would ever be ashamed of how they "earned" theirs. If/When they have to vacate the title there will always be rationalization on their side. "Everyone cheats" will probably be the go to logic.

I hope you realize that the 2009 National Champion was on probation when they won the title. Yeah the circumstances are different, but it's still a glass house.

Yes, we are on probation for allowing players girlfriends essentially borrow textbooks. Yes that is a violation, but certainly does not come rise to the level of the issues the boogs are being accused of right now. Apples to oranges.

This gets to the heart of something Tony (great guy, and he's trying to do good things for our beloved sport with his article) said on the OD this morning. Some programs know the speed limit is 55, and they drive 60 mph. Others know the speed limit is 55, and they drive 90 mph WHILE busting the light. There is a difference. Which of these do you think describes the barn right now?

I don't think UCONN's title will be vacated. Nate Miles never played in a game for the Huskies. Unlike the *U & $cam situation.
They are investigating new claims now at UConn about current players. I was always curious why I think the kids name was Robinson from B'ham ended up at Uconn. Don't you think a black kid from inner city B'ham would be a little out of place at Uconn which is 95% or more white.

What does that have to do with anything?

It is only pertinent in that most people( whether they are white or black) are not comfortable
being at place where they are not just the minority, but the only different face in the crowd. It is a fact that the state of Connecticut is over 96% white. Racism obviously doesn't only exist in the south and a state that is this lily white is going to have a few racists is my only point. I being a white male from small town Alabama wouldn't feel comfortable in a northern New England college with a bunch of Yankee's .

If a person isn't comfortable in a particular school, whether it's because of race or whatever, then why go there? It's not like they were sold to the school, you know. They don't have to go there. The students choose the schools they want to attend, not the other way around.

I told my brother back in December that Aub's season was like a night with Bangkok, Thailand hooker. It may feel good right now, but you know its dirty and its going to hurt like hell later.

I never heard anything fishy about Robinson's recruitment. Not to say that something didn't happen but I never heard even a whisper of it. I think that Stanley looked at himself as an elite basketball player and the UCONN and the Big East name had a big basketball reputation that he wanted to be seen in. Similar to a football prospect from up there wanting to be seen as an elite player but wanting to be a part of the SEC and Bama's public football name.
