I want to see a team that will improve as the season goes along and will hustle each game like it's the last game they will play. I believe this coaching staff will teach our players how to win. It will be a process just like in football. We will play teams with bigger and better players but we should win a few of those games because of coaching. The W's will take care of themselves. I look forward to Bball season. It will be a fun ride.
I second this completely! That's all I ever wanted! That's why this past season was so frustrating and terrible.

I hope one of his first teaching moments was showing them how to run an inbounds play.

On a side note, has there been any word out of the first practice a couple of days ago?

I updated the original post with the final roster but I'll paste it here as well:

James "Beetle" Bolden - Sr Grad Transfer - PG
Alex Reese - Jr - PF/SF
Galin Smith - Jr - C/PF
Herb Jones - Jr - SF
John Petty - Jr - SG/SF
James Rojas - Jr - PF
Kira Lewis - So - PG
Jahvon Quinerly - So - PG (Sit 1, Play 3 unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA)
Javian Fleming-Davis - RFr - C
Jalen Forbes - Fr - SG/SF
Juwan Gary - Fr - SF
Jaden Shackleford - Fr - SG
Raymond Hawkins - Fr - C

A lot of turnover since this was first posted. Giddens and Ingram announced they were transferring right away which opened up a scholarship for us to get a commitment from Raymond Hawkins for some much needed inside help. Then Diante Wood announced he was transferring which opened up a spot for Beetle Bolden. We desperately needed another PG so that was a huge pickup for us. Trendon Watford wound up signing with LSU so we signed JUCO transfer James Rojas who I think will be a day 1 starter and will wind up being a very good player for us. Tevin Mack originally declared for the draft but left the option open to return to school. He then said he was coming back to school but would be transferring somewhere else. We signed transfer PG Jahvon Quinerly to fill the spot that was opened up with Mack's transfer. Quinerly has applied for a waiver but will probably have to sit 1 year and then have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

When I look at the turnover and the final roster results I'm amazed at how quickly Coach Oats moved to fill the gaping holes and more important, how effectively he filled those holes. He was able to keep certain players from transferring (Lewis and Petty), he kept the 3 signees that xCAJ had signed, and then he brought in 2 PG's and 2 interior guys. One of the most important things a coach has to do is manage his roster properly and my initial impression of CNO is that he will do an outstanding job of roster management.

I wish there was an award for offseason coach of the year ... he would win hands-down with all of the great work he's been doing. I think we may get a LOT of good press when the season starts for all of the work he's done. I won't be surprised to see us ranked as a top 15 team as well. I know there was a way-too-early preseason poll that had us at 11th, but this is shaping up as a team that could be a consistent top 25 team if they earn it.

Now the question is will Huntsville rocket office actually release tickets on time ?

It won't matter because all the good seats will go to the corporate sponsors. Year 1 of the Rocket City classic my buddy purchased tickets the morning they became available and got us row 2 seats right on the sideline. We could almost reach out and touch the players and we had a blast. Year 2 I purchased the tickets very early the morning when they were first available and the best I could get was upper deck. All of the lower level tickets were never made available to the general public unless there was some trick that I didn't know about. Possibly some of the bad angles were available on the lower level, I don't recall, but the seats that my buddy and I had gotten the year before were not available. Year 3 I got slightly better seats than year 2 but still not great. On top of the seating issue, after year 1 the games have been boring and although the opponents were all generally good teams they have been no-name teams that doesn't generate much excitement. I wish they would bring a bigger name opponent to Huntsville instead of Mercer, Arkansas State, and Liberty. Birmingham got Oregon, Clemson, and Texas if I recall and lost all 3 games. Belmont is a quality opponent so it should be a good game. Given the seating issue and poor team play I wasn't planning to go the RCC this year but now that CNO is coaching the team I will go because I expect to see better basketball than what we saw under xCAJ.

My issue is how rocket classic handled the ticket sales in recent years and the presale wasn't a presale. I hope they move away from that and allows more fans to purchase tickets.

I get the feeling CNO likes the roster now with the new additions. His comments on Gary were pretty surprising, too.

I never could get it to play very well. It would repeat the first 2-3 minutes over and over. What did he have to say about Gary?

it was a good interview, I get more and more generally excited about the possibility of this team.

The direct vibe from the coach is a huge upgrade from the coach speak from the previous regime. Combine that with his track record to date in Buffalo and 2 months at the Capstone and I think we have a winner.

I don't recall a Bama basketball coach talking with that confidence. I'm not saying cocky, just confident. He seems to have a similar demeanor/confidence to that of our football coach.
