He also said only 3 showed for another voluntary shoot around this morning. That says a lot about this team but…

Why are you having voluntary practices during a tournament? Would Saban do that during the CFP?
I’m sure CNS has voluntary practice time. Lol no blue font required.

Effort, attitude, discipline, consistency and teamwork.

“ Alex, what are five things severely lacking and or missing entirely at times from this years Alabama Men’s Basketball team.”

Theses are young men who are still growing and developing as players and individuals, therefore, I prefer to primarily only offer support and encouragement.

However, it would not surprise me at all if CNO laid down the law this off-season and told the returning and new players that they can either buy into the team’s concepts, goals and “process”, or they are more than free to take their talents elsewhere.

A single bad apple can spoil the bunch and sometimes a good spring cleaning is just what your house needs and the doctor ordered.

We've beat this horse since January, it's finally dead.
But with the legs involuntarily spasming and splaying all over the place except for the finish line.

Agreed the most disappointing 'Bama season in 55+ years of following.

Oats, time to put up some bonafides or shut up about your players' failings and address your own.

Let's reflect on past regimes leading up to current expectations.

Hobbs will always be the 94-40 man.

Gottfraud gonna Gottfraud, 10 fool's gold seasons and road subservience.

Grant @bama = USeless Grant

Avery overmatched but gave it a game shot and at least brought back the program's profile.

Oats, one magical season, and apparently what goes around, comes around. Including the ball going all over the place but into the basket, errant pass by fumbled dribble by the array of airballs dominating Oats' vaunted 3-pt shooting chart.

And, in conclusion, no heart or fundamentals to be found in autopsying the deceased equine - a case could be made by the coroner that while the body of work was outstanding up to a point, by post time, 'Bama had gone from stallion to gelding and even had become a shoo-in for dead last in the field of the 64. That bad down the stretch...

I understand all of our frustrations with our team this year and it was disappointing but to say more disappointing than the Hobbs, Grant and Johnson era goes a little too far. We just came off an SEC championship and #2 seed last year which makes it disappointing but we all saw this team did not have the leadership and togetherness needed to be a champion or contender. Guessing if JQ had not gotten hurt and we would have won this game and then lost to TT we would not be making these type statements. We are bringing in a top 5 recruiting class with two 5*'s and add them to the guys coming back we will be a very dangerous team next year.

You can’t explain it to them, complainers gonna complain. Had he benched the top 8 and played those rich walk ons they’d be complaining about getting blown out night in and night out.

You can’t coach heart. You can’t develop it, most of the time you can’t even see it until it’s needed. You can’t coach chemistry. It’s either there, or it isn’t. Is Oats infallible in this? No, he’s not. The largest piece of this puzzle were missing pieces the players are supposed to bring to the table, and they didn’t.

The season ended badly with the losing streak--no way around that. And some truly bizarre losses. But I'm still encouraged by the potential this team showed early on. It would appear to this pedestrian fan that all of the major components are in place for us to have a great amount of success in the coming years as long as we can keep Nate Oats and follow through on a commitment to a new facility.

Man I would have loved to been sitting next to Stewart on that call

Chris Stewart Loses it on Foul against Gary
Two huge moments that sealed it. The botched call! At least a 5 point swing because they immediately hit a 3 and we would have had two shots and the ball.

Then after Gary blocked a shot, JD Davidson had him for an easy ally hoop and instead threw a cross-court pass that was intercepted and led to a dunk by their freshman.

Two incidences was an 8-10 point swing.

Granted, we didn't deserve to win because we played badly and shot badly the whole game...but those were two huge momentum shifters.

Looking at it. I think Bediako, Gurley and likely Gary are back.

Maybe Miles.

After that? No idea
You think JD enters the draft? After Primo I'll never question that again, but JD is just so raw and undisciplined. Too tentative too. Always looking to pass and not finish. I think he has the physical tools to take over a game, but not the basketball IQ or confidence.

I thought Miles would be the surprise player of the year. He just doesn't seem to play smart. Case in point: in the game he was driving to his left for a layup. Had his man beat. Should have just dunked on him, but instead tried a right-handed scoop shot. HE'S LEFTHANDED!

Bottom line for next year: yes we need leadership and effort, but we've gotta find some offense. It's hard to explain how poorly JQ and Shack shot it this year and if we throw in how poorly JD shot it, we had a backcourt that couldn't buy a 3 pointer most of the year.

Some good but a lot of bad and ugly this season. The best good is that Oats is 2 for 2 making the tournament. Not sure if the ship will get back afloat but so far gotta believe coach is serious about making this thing a contender year in and year out.

Basketball was in much worse shape - and for longer - when Oats showed up compared to football when Saban showed up. The deck was also stacked in Saban's favor with his reputation, the school's reputation, and the general mechanics of the program being in a better position for faster success.

I'm not comparing the two coaches or the two sports directly. I am attempting to offer perspective. I am trying to say that the basketball rebuild was never going to go as quickly.

I am still disappointed in the choices players made that sabotaged the season. It is on Oats, ultimately, to fix it. I believe he will, but time will tell.

Hammer meets nail. Leadership and chemistry. Herb, Petty, and Reese were the “run stoppers”. Last year when the other team started to get on a roll, one these guys stepped up and hit the big shot or made the play to stop that momentum.

Look , people can throw blame at CNO all they want for this season. And yes “the buck does stop” ultimately with him. But you can’t force “chemistry”. That comes playing together, trusting each other, liking each other and caring about each other. Yes they played together, but I’m not so sure about liking trusting and caring about each other. Leadership? I really never got any sense there was a guy or two on this team that represented “the glue”.

That IMO is what CNO has to figure out going into next year. You can bring in all the top 10 recruiting classes you want. But if can’t find that “glue” that makes roster of very talented individuals one cohesive team, then system means nothing.

RTR
True. Otherwise, UK would just win the trophy every year...

Any word on the extent of Quinerly’s knee injury? I had read they were flying him back here last night for an MRI today. I know the word was “significant” used. Hoping and praying for the best outcome possible for the young man.

I'm not sure how much basketball you've played, but that is strictly football thinking. When you're in a strange gym, with strange lines of sight and rims, yes - you use every opportunity to get accustomed to those rims. They are all different. The lack of commitment of the team comes shining through clearly. Probably JQ was the only starter. If half of those near misses had gone in, we'd've won. Think about that in connection with being accustomed to the goals...

It appeared to me to be an ACL. I hope not...
