Of the starters that could pitch in game 7, McCullers (God forbid) would be on 4 days rest and Javier on 3 days. But you still have Urquidy and Garcia, plus the deep bullpen. In a game 7, I can't imagine anyone pitching many innings unless they're like Nolan Ryan on his best day ever.I meant in this one moment that leaves a gm 7 to the bullpen, not his entire history. Calm down Selma, I was just trying to be a little funny.
My bad.I meant in this one moment that leaves a gm 7 to the bullpen, not his entire history. Calm down Selma, I was just trying to be a little funny.
I saw my first World Series in 1978.This is the worst WS matchup I've ever had the pleasure of not watching.
The only other equally detestable matchups for me would be..
Astros vs Mets or Astros vs Dodgers
At least those would have been teams that deserved to be playing each other though.
Since I can't stand both the Astros and Phillies this will probably go 7 games with Game 7 being some kind of Extra Innings Classic.
That and the No-hitter in the World Series. How sweet was that catch by McCormmick?
That will live rent free in the brains of Phillies fans for generations if they lose this WS.
in Philly at thatThat and the No-hitter in the World Series.

That's not Snitkeresk, or Snitker squared, that's logarithmic Snitker.Does this sound like Snitker to you?
Dusty Baker Career
1993 - had a 9.5 game lead with 51 games left in the season and only had to face the Braves six more times. Went 1-5 in those games and lost the pennant by a single game. Slide included 8-game losing streak.
1997 - makes playoffs for first time, draws wildcard Marlins whom SF beat 6-5 in regular season. The Giants got swept after scoring first in all 3 games.
1998 - tied for wildcard spot entering last day of season. Giants lead 7-0 in the fifth - and because the Cubs lose to Houston, a win puts them in the playoffs. They give up a 6-run fifth and closer Rob Nen gives up a walkoff home run to Neifi Perez, a shortstop who had had over 1,000 at bats and only 12 career home runs. They draw the Cubs in the play-in game and lose, 5-3, the most delicious part being that former Giants closer Rob Beck saves the game for the Cubs.
2000 - Giants win the NL West with the best record in baseball (97-65) and win Game One vs the wildcard Mets, 5-1. They lose the next two games in extra innings thanks to sorry bullpens (Benny Agbayani hits a walkoff in the 13th of Game Three)...and they get shut out in the do-or-die Game Four.
2002 - Giants make the World Series as a wildcard and rally from a 2-1 deficit in the best-of-five to win the LDS in five games (and Livan Hernandez whips Atlanta in Game Four, the yutz). They wipe out the Cardinals in five games in the LCS. In the World Series, they win Game Five, 16-4, to take a 3-2 series lead, and they lead Game Six, 5-0, at the seventh inning stretch. Only eight outs from a championship, the Giants give up six runs and lose - and then lose Game Seven, 4-1, to blow his best chance.
The Giants were fed up with Baker - and did not offer him a new contract. So he goes to the Cubs.
2003 - the Cubs are finally in position for their first World Series since 1945. They lead the Marlins in the LCS, 3-1, in games. They get shut out, 4-0, in Game Five. In Game Six, they lead, 3-1, when the Steve Bartman incident happens. The Cubs collapse and lose Game Six, 8-3, and then have a 5-3 lead entering the fifth inning WITH THEIR SECOND-BEST PITCHER ON THE MOUND....and lose the game and series, 9-6.
The Cubs plummet from first to last over the next three seasons....and just like the Giants, they don't fire him, they just refuse to renew his contract.
Dusty sits out a year, and the Reds hire him.
They gradually improve in 2008 and 2009 and then win the division in 2010 with 91 wins. They make the playoffs for the first time since 1995.
2010 - they draw Philly in the LDS. They get NO-HIT in Game One by Roy Halladay, 4-0. They blow a 4-0 lead in the sixth of Game Two - and then don't score again in Game Three, getting swept. They miss the playoffs in 2011.
2012 - Reds have the second-best record in baseball behind the Nationals and by one win. They take a 2-0 lead over the Giants in the best-of-five LDS. In Game Three, they lead, 1-0, but tied 1-1, the game goes to the 10th. A passed ball and an error in the 10th give the Giants a 2-1 win, but the Reds still only need to win one of two games. They have a 3-1 lead early in Game Four and lose - and then with the game tied at 0 in the fifth, the Giants smash them for six runs...and the Reds choke again.
2013 - the Reds win 90 games, make the play-in game.....and lose to the Pirates, 6-2.
The Reds fire Baker three days after the game.
2016 - Dusty's first year with the Nationals. They win 95 games (2nd best - again!). They draw the Dodgers in the LDS, take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series, have Game Four tied at 5 in the 8th with two outs....hit a batter, give up two singles, and lose the game, 6-5. The next day they lead, 1-0, entering the 7th at home and give up four runs and lose, 4-3.
2017 - 2nd best record in NL, division champs. In the LDS, they are down, 2-1, but force Game Five. They lead, 4-1, after two, but trail by one in the 8th. With the tying run at second....their guy on first gets picked off. They go in order in the 9th, Bryce Harper strikes out ending the series as a 3-2 Cubs win.
Once again - for the third time in his career - Baker's contract is simply not renewed.
2020 - the Astros hire him to replace Hinch, who gets canned in the sign-stealing scandal. Weird Covid year, but they make it to the LCS. They fall behind 0-3 - then almost miraculously win the next 3, setting up a winner-take-all Game Seven with Tampa. McCullers get clobbered early, and the Rays make the World Series.
2021 - Houston wins 95 games and makes the World Series at betting favorites against the Braves. They fall behind, 3-1 in games, but win Game Five. Their ignominy includes losing a bullpen game where they have Zack Greinke going against Dylan Lee. They blow a 2-0 lead in Game Four. The Braves even make it easier for them by losing Charlie Morton early in Game One. And then Jorge Soler hits one that never came down.
Braves win one of the most stunning World Series' ever.

With all this data - you tell me?
Dusty’s issues can mostly be defended with “it’s baseball” or “at the time it was a smart move”. Snitker’s issue mostly defy logic. Hiding your ace in a Game 3 in a best of 5 and refusing to pitch your ace in a game 4 elimination game are beyond stupid. Hell thet doesn’t even address the Luke Jackson, Sour prince of Dairy Air, and Jansen love he has with clearly better options in the pen.Does this sound like Snitker to you?

My only comment - at least the Phillies didn't win. That would have been hard to stomach this morning.
