Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

So does Kirby. 90% of UGA's roster are players they recruited out of HS. I think even the best coaches are still trying to figure out how to best build a team in today's landscape.
I think the high school recruit is the way to go. It reminds me of years ago when teams would bring in partial qualifiers. Teams like Miss State, Kansas State and others. One or two good years followed by 3 to 4 of truly terrible seasons. You have to create a foundation through solid recruitment of the H.S. kid and supplement with the transfers. One of the reasons for Nebraskas downfall after they joined the big 12 was that the big twelve limited partial qualifiers and Nebraska had to rely on HS recruitment instead of taking front the juco ranks.

There are about 12,000 football players in the FBS, there are 4500 currently in the portal. That number is expected to climb to about 6500 before the window closes. (Something needs to be done for the health of the sport). I know I’m beating a dead horse, but to transfer just to transfer is not productive for the school or especially for the player. There were over 2000 still in the portal from the last cycle. Kids receive bad advice and are left out in the cold.
In my opinion, the entity of college football has been brutally attacked and is “hemorrhaging” multitudes of life-long followers…and is truly on the verge of requiring “Life-Support”

We’re way past the point of addressing its HEALTH…and steps need to be taken to address its LIFE at this stage…or we’re going to lose the patient altogether.

The HS recruit is a "better way" if you can convince them to stay. Rather than your staff investing coaching in them only for them to go someone where else and the other school benefits from you team's coaching.

I don’t understand fans, bench players getting so much love like Adams. Look at other WRs that transferred out and very low percentage did well. Adams return stats are bad and he didn’t get on the field. Saying he will flourish somewhere is based on what? Used to be the backup qb was the favorite guy now it’s all bench players lol
How many fumbled punts did he have? Many others competing with Adams had fumbilitis. Cole has very sure hands. I also seriously question our special teams coach about return schemes, blocking, and overall techniques being taught

So by my count we have, with Rico Scott being the most recent, fifteen (15) that have hit the portal.
Any guesses as to how many by the time it is all said and done?
How many does it look like we will lose to loss of eligibility or NFL draft, roughly?

Someone mentioned the 20-30 range is the average for most teams.

Not liking some of these departures, but in the modern landscape they are opportunities.

We have unequivocal proof that a terrible team can go into the portal and turn into a playoff team in just one year. Furthermore, we've seen that a borderline playoff team (where Alabama now sits) can go into the portal in one year and turn into a top championship contender.

So, it really isn't about who you lose, it's about how you use your resources and who you get. The Heisman winner was snagged from the portal last off season (and ironically one of the top portal players is a former Indiana QB, just how it works now), use it well and you will be successful.

Formby and Keeley are shockers.

Figured Formby was a lock to start again, at least at OG. Maybe he only want to play OT, or realizes the OL coach here isn't going to help him develop to his fullest.

Keeley just seemed to be figuring it out. We sunk a bunch of development time into him and he's just now starting to show his promise, with a likely chance at being the guy next year and now he's out.
