Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

Lets take a look at OL that this staff has recruited and gotten as a transfer.

2025:

Michael Carroll - 5 star - he's gonna be the guy on the OL going forward
Jackson Lloyd - 4 star - don't recall seeing him
Mal Waldrep - 4 star - Central Phenix kid, hopefully he turns out.
Micah DeBose - 3 star - transferring
Jayden Hobson - 3 star - transferred from South Alabama, but a Tuscaloosa kid
Arkel Anugwom - 3 star - transferred from Ball State.....is transferring again.
Kam Dewberry - 4 star - transferred from ATM.....eligibility done

2026:

Bryson Cooley - 4 star out of Laurel, MS
Chris Booker - 4 star out of Atlanta
Bear Fretwell - 3 star out of Brooklet, GA
Tyler Miller - 3 star out of San Mateo, CA
Jared Doughty - 4 star out of Atlanta
Kaden Strayhorn - 3 star transferring from Michigan

We're losing these guys from the roster:

Alinen - transfer
Anugwom - transfer
Brailsford - NFL
DeBose - transfer
Dewberry - NFL?
Formby - transfer
Ionata - transfer
Montgomery - transfer
Proctor - NFL
Roberts - NFL (not sure why he didn't play more)
VanDeMark - NFL?

We are going to be relying on transfers to start and freshmen or true sophomores for depth obviously. We need more quality OL from the portal.

It's comical to me how he's so brilliant and now he's the gold-standard.
The guy went into the portal last year, and got the 25th ranked class. It was 23 guys though, very aggressive. Alabama for the record added 12 and their class was ranked 21. Alabama got more shiny stuff.

Alabama's shiny stuff is all gone now already.

Indiana? Tons of impact players on that list, not the least of which being the Heisman trophy winner. It's not hyperbole to say if Alabama used the portal half as well as Cignetti did, they'd be the ones still playing in the playoff. It was brilliant, that's the only way to describe it.

They got their leading passer, their second leading rusher, I know way more about Alabama football but I recognize about as many names from their list of portal additions as I do from Alabama's list. I'm not going to pretend he didn't do a great job and Alabama didn't do a poor job, and until things change my attitude won't either.

I'd love for him to fall apart and for Alabama to turn things around, but he's lapping them in some areas at this point.

Yeah, it worked. Will it work if/when others start doing it? That's my point.

Alabama is just in a weird place right now because in theory I get it. You have some flaws with the current roster, you do need to improve, but you need to actually address the issues via addition.

So last portal for instance they let an under-performing offensive lineman go. Fine, don't overpay, do your thing. But who did they replace him with? Did the offensive line get better or worse?

They let a key running back go, someone they didn't use much and he supposedly wasn't a good fit. Fine what ever, who did you bring in that was better than him? How did you upgrade the running game? Oh wait, you just got worse there as well?

That's the issue we're looking at here. I don't at all mind letting guys go, but at some point I just start to wonder if they're actually going to replace them with upgrades or not. If they were faster moving, like even Indiana is despite still playing in the playoffs, I'd feel better. They seem to be dragging their feet and it makes me nervous. I hope there's a master plan unfolding though but if not some of these guys might be looking for work come this time next year.
This is a good way to put it. This is a show me off season and season coming up.

Just think how good IU would be if they had Courtney Morgan ;)

Seems like Alabama got the North Alabama punter (Watford). He averaged 4 more yards per punt last year than Alabama's current punter, so seems like an upgrade. In the least he's more experienced.

Edit: Rather than make a new post, I might as well try to explain my unease like I usually do. With numbers.

So, the total number of max scholarships is expanding to 105. This means +20 to the total roster of scholarship players (potentially, not mandatory).

So we start with that
+20
Currently there are 20 players in the portal from Alabama
+20
There are 16 out of eligibility and 3 more declared for the draft
+19

I think the punter makes it 7 in from the portal
-7
23 in the recruiting class
-23

So that's a net gain of 29 spots! Just seems like there should be a lot more activity, it can't all be about those big targets, seems to me there should be a lot more quality depth additions as well.

After 24 months with CKD and this staff, the “trust” factor among fans is closer to what it was under Mike Shula than what it ever was under Coach Saban.

“Trust but verify” is the adage. Give them leeway to correct things but don’t be so blinded by that trust that you can’t objectively look at the situation and fully recognize glaring issues. And the verification for many is how “consistently inconsistent” this program has been the past two years. Forget about the losses. Look at the WAY we looked in those losses. The verification comes when we hear words like “destroyed” or “blasted” or “whipped” or “humiliated”’in front of “Alabama” when describing the loss. I’m not about moral victories found in close losses. But I am about seeing improvement game to game and week to week that show undeniable upward trajectory of this program. And IMO that isn’t happening.

Idk what we will look like last year but it seems to me the only real big miss so far has been the OT that South Carolina got. I would have felt great if we landed him and a few of these other OL guys but there are still a number of targets out there.

OL is big but if we get Coleman somehow and that transfer RB we got works out then those are 2 pretty big pieces for next year.

Agent dropped the Washington QB who was trying to break his contract.

Wow!

That agent is basically saying that the kid is going against his signed contract and is NOT reasonable... 😳

Frankly, I am not worried about a thing. DeBoer gets the message. Nick told him on national television that he failed to meet our expectation. If the guy is cut from the mold we need him to be then he will have enough motivation to get it done. If he don't, well, we will find someone who can.
that's been my line of thinking after the season ended. so many fans are stressed and fretting things they can't actually control. the university is paying him and his staff loads of money to right the ship and get the program back on track. let's wait and see. I hate too see if Bama didn't make the SECCG and Playoffs after DeBoer's second season. I would probably stay off this board and every Bama board!!

Kiffin has LSU folks all in on the portal. Even more than they were with Brian Kelly. Even to the point they will throw stupid money at players. The word was that was Kiffin and LSU luring the Washington QB back to the portal after re-signing with them.
We are seeing what the NFL with unlimited free agency would look like!!! 😳

In my opinion....we shouldn't be spending big bucks on any one players in the portal. We've got too many open spots to fill. Hopefully they've budgeted per position and are attacking the portal accordingly.

What makes the sense to me.....a simpleton fan:

- We have 29 spots to fill
- How much money do we have total available?
- What positions do we need the most? OL and DL!!!!
- Of the available money, we put most of it in OL and DL
- We spread out what else we need with what we have left.
- Which freshmen do we expect to make an impact?
- We needed a Punter....we got one now
- We needed at least one TE......we got one
