Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

Many believe the ridiculous numbers being thrown at Ty are being driven out of desperation by some programs. They’ve missed on top portal QB target(s) and throwing stupid money at him.

Would Ty be a “good get” for some program if he took the portal route. Yeah but not a $4-$6 million price tag.,
If I had a top 5 pick I would go with Ty. He’s used to running for his life due to the year he just experienced at Bama.

… you don't sit on your hands and then get up late and go alright time to get to work.
Surely you are not naive enough or inattentive enough to believe that statement are you? And you are one of the more reasonable, observant and least bitter complainers on this board.

This staff’s approach has been to focus on roster retention and recruiting/development. Even if they had decided to abandon their approach or just modify it a little, it would probably be next year before they could employ that approach because the money for recruiting and retention has already been spent for this year.

I like Ty a bunch but he's not worth $6.5 million. Not sure I've seen a QB in college right now worth that much.
To put into context how ridiculous NIL (which it isn’t; it’s pay for play; but I digress) is, according to Business Insider Travis Kelce makes $5MM in annual endorsement fees. Other than Mahomes and a small number of other NFL players, Kelce is at the top. Carson Beck got $4MM at the U this year. How many commercials have you seen him in?

We cant just shut the message board down and wait til next season. We literally have thousands of posters on this board and not everyone is going to be in lock step agreement with their opinions or thoughts. Message boards are cutlets for fans to communicate and its serving its purpose for this discussion. Some people are optimistic and some arent. The board is here to capture both views. (y)

The best thing is to speak your opinion and let others speak there's (within board rules). Not expect one group to not express theirs because its very different from mine.
No problem with different opinions, it’s the use of vitriol expressed through designations like “moron” and “idiot” in reference to men of stature like Coach DeBoer and Courtney Morgan. It’s beyond the pale and adds to the well deserved contempt that many have for this fan base. A fan base from which many called for Coach Bryant’s firing in the late 60s. This after he won 3 NCs earlier in the decade and went 60-5-1 from 61-66. But hey, they lost to a lower ranked 7-3 Missouri team with -46 yards rushing and 28 yards of total offense vs Missouri’s 400+ yards rushing. How could they recover from that? The times were a-changing (though nothing like now). It took 3 years: 8-3, 6-5, 6-5-1, then they took off again, though Alabama went 8 years without a bowl win from 67-74, 0-7-1.

Alabama fans rented billboard space in the Bham area that said, “the old grey Bear ain’t what he used to be”. A real appreciative bunch.

So if it is true that Smothers committed to Alabama and has enrolled yet we didn’t get any binding agreement with him (contract, letter of understanding, etc) then that was a big mistake by someone.
It’s possible that they tried to get him to sign but he wouldn’t or he lied or they perceived that he did not want to sign yet so they did not want to appear pushy or desperate. Or it could be that they dropped the ball. We just don’t know.

I’m assuming something dirty in all this. I could be wrong but how you do you commit and enroll only to leave in less than 48 hours?

Either way there are no rules so it will continue. Nobody has enough backbone to pull it back into order

Kids got an agent, that’s who played the game.

Deloitte is the clearinghouse. Right now they don’t know whether to “scratch their fanny or wind their watch.” And programs like Texas Tech, Texas, TAMU with major dollar boosters are taking advantage of it. There are some legal experts saying this may not end well. If Deloitte gets it acts together and essentially void some of these agreements by finding them illegitimate and merely “pay for play”, then the lawsuits start flying.
As of a month or two ago, the Clearinghouse had rejected ~75’% of the NIL contracts submitted. Haven’t heard since then. i’m

Thanks for the response.

I say a lot, but sometimes not enough. One poster took exception to my framing of an expenditure and another took it to mean I hadn't researched it, when in fact I just omitted details for brevity. I'm never quite sure how much information is enough to get the point across. So, apologies for saying too much and for not saying enough, heh.

In this case, I am speaking in hypotheticals because I have a somewhat deliberate outsider view of things. I don't really try to comment on what they're actually thinking, but rather what I think of what they're doing, could have done, or might be doing. So in this case even when I said "you don't" it doesn't mean I think "they did".

As to my specific frustrations, externally it looks like they went for big spends and bidding wars, regardless of what their actual restraints might be. They for instance went after a high profile RB they kinda had, a high profile WR that would cost millions, another big OL that would have been a big get and a big time defensive player, all ultimately misses and the latter three were after the RB committed, meaning they should have had enough for at least two of those.

I'm not mad they missed on any actually, I'm not sure that's the best use of money. But I can't comprehend doing those things if you don't have a reasonable sized budget. It to me would be weird, and then if the explanation is they have a sizable budget, my thoughts immediately go to some of the things I've said. I'm just having trouble following what it is they actually seem to be trying to do.

That aside, you in another post made some valid points. I'm a complainer in the sense that if I don't like something I say it. I don't call people names though, at least not specifically, and in this case I haven't called for firings either. Not the GM, not the head coach. I'm just disappointed right now is all.

When this is all said and done, if the team looks great next season I'll gladly, and happily say I was worried for nothing. Heck if this portal class closes strong after the weak start, I will be extremely happy. I'm just not sure what the strategy is here.

Sorry for the long response, heh...
