A lot of that is coming from their upbringing and parents pushing for money.....Ms. Terry even mentioned that when they would host recruits at their house.....said parents would talk to her about how much they would pay them.

Saban wanted the kids to create value for themselves.....and reap the benefits of that....potentially long term.

The kids and parents want the value now, just want to know how much.....short term mentality.
The reality is, the value is now. An overwhelming majority of D1 athletes who are making six figures in college will never make a penny playing sports once they run out of eligibility. We can be mad at the student athlete but it is the system that is broken.

I have nothing but respect for Ty but we also have to understand that Ty doesn't come from the same background as most of the players we have been discussing. He doesn't have momma, daddy, aunt's, uncle's, cousin's, etc that live in poverty and expect them to help take care of them. Does that make any of this right? Absolutely not. But world view and perspective has to come into play when trying to understand WHY someone does what they do. Ty has never been about getting the bag because he wasn't brought up that way and he has never had to struggle in the financial sense. He understands that he will create value and wealth in the future. Some of these young men have never seen that in their immediate family or circle. They only know what value they have now and the future is a complete parallel universe to them. None of this is to belittle Ty's decision but to bring light as to why someone like Ty can make a decision that we respect and the next guy simply can't. As stated previously, the system is broken and the athletes are doing exactly what most of us would do if we were in their positions.

Which is exactly why many of these players will not have “a pot to squat over or a window to throw it out of” in five years.

Typically happens to a lot of former pro guys, so I would imagine it is the same for college guys that don't have an additional pro career.

Hence the reason so many are wanting to stay in college for 6-7-8 years...
Well, they are working towards their doctorate in "Human Performance." Remember that major during the 80s and 90s? As a kid, I didnt understand it was a made up major for athletes, but looking back as an adult, that was hilarious.

Having followed this stuff over the last two weeks, and knowing nothing beyond what I read or hear from people much more knowledgeable than me, it seems very evident that we have a budget that probably has some level of flexibility to it, but for the most part is fairly set. We were probably waiting on guys like Pierre, Sabb, Hubbard, etc. to make decisions and probably tried to keep guys like Smith, Russaw, Keeley and Horton but their asking price was just too large in terms of what their values were relative to our budget. If that's the case, then I have no issue with the staff letting them walk. It seems like we have done a good job of convincing important players, that could have gone pro, to stay. Meanwhile, we have been getting value in the portal with guys that are probably better per dollar players. In other words, I'd rather keep Hubbard, Pierre, Lee and Sabb and get the portal players we got then lose Hubbard, Pierre, Lee and Sabb but keep Keeley, Russaw, Smith and Horton.

I don't know who the staff are under Courtney Morgan, but I'm sure we have one or two capologists like NFL teams do that are constantly making the numbers work. As crazy as it sounds, it's actually a very intriguing process that is unfortunately a necessary evil.

At some point this has to affect how many players coming out of high school can play college football.

You do know kinesiology is a common undergrad degree for people pursuing graduate degrees in things like physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc., right? It's certainly not one just made up for athletes at all.
never said it was made up, just that a lot of athletes have this as their major.

Let's face it most athletes are "business" majors.

Kinesiology was always a popular one. It sounds fancy.
Kinesiology is a legitimate field of study. It’s the study of human movement from a physiological, biomechanical, and psychological perspective. It is not a simple field. I have a friend who got her Phd in it a few years ago. She volunteered as a gymnastics coach for a Bham area ?school? while she was finishing her academic work.

Again, I never said it was fake.
