Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

There are a bunch of kids left with no team after the portal closed....they should be allowed to band together and form their own team and compete as an Independent...like Notre Dame...a team full of 2/3 stars...who knows, they may even win it all! :)
On the surface this sounds ridiculous.
But, given the fact that Carson Beck has admitted (and I'm sure there are others) that he isn't taking classes at Miami the college affiliation is loose, at best.
It feels like the train has left the track

Many athletes take online courses so they can concentrate on their support. The #1 Amateur Golfer in the world said this explicitly in an intervew recently....doesn't have to spend time going to class and can work out, practice, etc. As graduates I think they can take less than a full load.

I get online classes. That is still taking classes.

What I understand from Beck is that he isn't taking classes so that he can devote full-time to football.
Maybe I mis-understood.

Also, there used to be this thing where you are supposed to be working towards a degree.

Duke is taking Mensah to court for breach of his 2 year contract. They are asking for an injunction to prevent him from transferring. This should be interesting.

There should be a way out. But there should be a penalty. Particularly a stiff one given last minute leaving in a lurch.

Who was that player?

Per gogle AI:

The proposed 9-game redshirt rule (which would allow players to participate in up to nine games while maintaining a year of eligibility) was largely driven by a need to curb midseason opt-outs and combat legal challenges regarding eligibility, with Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss cited as a key, controversial case.

With the NCAA's moving target approach to things, and then lay down when faced with a legal challenge approach, the level of insanity just kept increasing.

We need the players to lose a few court cases for things to calm down. It is absolutely insane you can sigh a multi-year deal and then leave that team mid-contact. That's not how contracts should work. Mind you, may be there's an opt-out clause, but if I as I understand it Duke paid specifically for his NIL rights for a certain period of time, he can't make a penny off NIL during that time. You'd think Duke was smart enough to word that contract correctly.

Not taking up for beck but, he's a graduate that took classes last fall. He just isn't taking classes this semester/quarter. His college schooling ended when the fall semester ended. He can't help that football now runs 1/2 way thru the spring semester. :)

I agree. He took them down to the wire after committing to return a few weeks ago, as well. Impacting their plans to pursue other QB's and effectively tying up a large portion of their collective funds which they had committed to pay him. I expect they will be looking for Miami (or other suitors) to pay them to release him from his obligations to Duke; of course depending how the contract is worded. It is also too late for him to declare for the draft.

Meet the Unportalled Porcupines! Nicknamed 'cause nobody wanted to touch 'em. Much less promise 'em a hire [cq] football education. Not even books were on the table - 'cause ain't no school books these days anyway. Spurned, unwanted, agent-less, begging for any NIL dosh this side of a rendering plant. They were starred and starry-eyed once, now just looking to get aboard the brokedown CFB refugee bus and unpack their attitude at the U. of Misbegotten Movers and Worthless Handshake Offers. And when they did...

He has to be enrolled in school in some way....

Last chance: Unportaled U....

If the kid was leaving Duke in a lurch like that, I have absolutely no sympathy for him... 😎

not for the spring semester. This is pretty normal and has been for a while for guys in their last year. Guys going into the draft don't enroll so they can focus on prep.
You're right.
The big difference is football season used to end before the spring semester started. We are beyond that now and getting worse next year.
Championship January 25th.

Had not thought about that. 20+ years ago a top amateur golfer from Ireland was playing @ UAB. He enrolled for the spring semester of his senior year...and never attended a single class. He wasn't going to graduate anyway.
