2027 Recruiting: 2027 Recruiting Thread

This. After a few years of relative stability, we just don't need to sign that many kids in this class (not to mention the transfers we just took). Barners will hem and haw about their class this year, but they're probably signing over 30 kids after the Freeze debacle and all the kids that left the program.
People will do anything they can to hate on this coaching staff.

Two talented quarterbacks on the roster
Game changing receiver
Five star running backs
Talented, young offensive linemen at the tackle spots
Elite edge rusher
Combo inside guy
Brought in a starting middle linebacker
Probably the deepest, and most talented secondary in the country

That’s where the money is.

The reality is that Alabama is routinely outbid for elite players. Read all the “Alabama has money” articles you want, but Alabama just lost a defensive lineman because Ole Miss swooped in last minute with a better offer. Alabama could potentially lose a top receiver because of the same.

I’m beginning to wonder if Alabama even needs a recruiting heavy staff, and just go with a staff that can take transfer portal players and develop them into college superstars.

So you’re saying Alabama doesn’t have the money? That’s not true. It’s not just articles. You can look up NIL money. No reason to be out bid by anybody other than a handful of teams…and Ole Miss isn’t one of them.

Another poster addressed it, it’s not the money, it’s the willingness to spend it.

You can absolutely get outbid by any team willing to pay more for a player than you are. Losing back to back top defensive linemen to Alabama was not an option for Ole Miss, so they were willing to pay a lot more than Alabama was. Same goes for Tennessee and the legacy linebacker. Alabama was the favorite for these players, it didn’t make sense to get in a bid war with teams that needed to win those kids a lot more than Alabama did.

Alabama’s NIL pool, however big it is, is filled by many people, and not just a large donor. That’s a lot of people to keep happy spending THEIR money.

and I thought Alabama people were mispronouncing the word. Turns out, nope.

Its definitely a balancing act...........just have to give it time to see if it pans out

I got you CountryTider, and many of Us feel the same. I really haven’t heard a good argument as to why we are where we are in recruiting. Sure. We don’t have Billionaire money, it’s a new world or we are being selective. But being selective suggests we are recruiting against Georgia or LSU or Oklahoma for talent. Not Rutgers and Coastal Carolina. And taking a small class doesn’t explain why we have so few or none of DL, OL, LB, Safety.

Hi guys! hope everyone is everyone is having a great summer thus far.
I read all the angst and moaning from certain Bama posters on this board as well as other message boards where the complaints are the loudest and sometimes the most asinine during my vacation.
I am not going to rehash any bulletin points that several posters posted on the strategy from this staff. Those posters did an excellent job of explaining the plan for 2027class. But I will state some points to hopefully ease some anxiety and nerves.
If you follow recruiting closely you know the rankings are constantly changing throughout the year. Most will get a bump after more film and scouts follow up after their commitment. The disappointment on all these " 3 stars" is somewhat warranted because they are not as coveted or ready to contribute as some Bama fans are accustomed to esp. after the B2B top classes. Of course, with Bama's unprecedented history of top classes under the GOAT, it can be somewhat alarming. I get it completely and it is very unnerving to see where the Tide is currently ranked in June. Yes, it's June! As the season approaches, let's see how many of the ones Bama lost to NIL or money will flip back to us or had a change of heart to the school they committed once the said school's season goes awry. It's a long year and these teenagers are a funny bunch. Regarding HS player's profile, I would suggest you look closely what programs has offered these HS players that pledge to Bama. Some are truly " under the radar" or " diamonds in the rough" as we say in this industry. We are not the only top programs that has offered these 3-star players and there are multiple reasons why some players are not ranked as high for the moment. Lack of evaluations or poor ones for that matter are usually the main culprits. Some kids don't attend camps due to schedule or money. The list goes on and on. I think we can all agree so far that DeBoer and staff have evaluated 3-star players very well and some have contributed to the program after their first or second season (Brooks, Simmons, Sanders, Faga, Kirkpatrick).
I am reminded that history is our greatest teacher and if you go back and looked at the 3 stars Bama took in and developed over the years, you would be very surprised to see who actually became a starter and got drafted compared to those 4- or 5-star players. Some of those blue-chip players either never developed or pan out and worse yet, transferred from Bama and most were never heard from again. I'm not dismissing talented HS players that would be foolish, but sometimes and myself included get " star struck" and we become impatient with lowly ranked players for their development to take place. Lastly, some fans act as if this current class will play immediately for the upcoming season!! Lol!!
Our current team has talent everywhere and it may not be elite like year's past, but it isn't chop liver either! I believe we will compete at the highest level in 2026 and that alone will attract great players regardless of rankings. Enjoy your summer and let the people who get paid handsomely take care of the recruiting process.
