"You act as though this couldn't be prevented. You might be right. But, it should be more than enough for fans such as yourself to take a second look at the football program. You should ask yourself, do you really want people on your team that are throwing up gang signs? Do you really want that association given even the slight chance for it to turn into something like this?"

As a professor, I completely agree that disadvantaged kids need to be given a chance at a college education. But a college campus is no environment for gang culture. If you come from a gang culture to my class, fine. But leave your colors and signs at the entry gate. If you want to stay a gang banger, stay in the hood or go to prison where you belong.

KrAzY3 - I don't believe it could have been prevented. I just don't believe that it could.

I am not aware of people on our football team flashing gang signs. Maybe I'm, out of the loop on that, but I haven't seen it -- and that doesn't, necessarily, mean that it hasn't happened. I'm in Tennessee... there is probably a lot of things that I don't see or hear about up here on both Auburn and Alabama football that I might know if I still lived down there.

I didn't ever say that "Woosie" fired aimlessly into the crowd... I said that he fired into a crowd. Reports are that he stood in the doorway and shot people. If he had specific targets -- and he probably did -- it doesn't change the meaning of "fire into a crowd". It still happened, and innocent people were still shot.

I'm pretty sure that Auburn does want to get to the bottom of this. I have no indication that they don't.

I think I'll stop posting, tho... all I originally did was say that it was tragic and I was sorry for those involved... for the record, that includes the shooter and his four year old daughter. I was engaged after posting, so I wasn't trying to anger anyone -- only answer the posts directed to me.

I'm out... Roll Tide, everybody...

There has been much discussion here on the environment in much of Montgomery, relating to gang activity. If the problems here (I live in Montgomery) had not been largely ignored to save face for politicians, maybe it would not be as prevalent as it is now.
I have relatives who live in Auburn. (I love 'em even though they are AU fans) Their safety and well being, with that of students and athletes alike, should come before recruiting for a sport. The people who died deserve justice which can only be achieved by finding the whole truth. Their families will find some solace if this is never repeated because everything that can be done is done.
Questions have been raised about the handling of the investigation and safety alerts that were never issued. Those questions are justified and feigned indignation over questioning Auburn's disclosure of all the facts will not stop the wonder or violence. Denying the problems and failing to attempt to prevent a repeat of the events that led to the tragedy dishonors their memory with a lie.

It was tragic, and you didn't anger me. I understand your being defensive, or even offensive. This really shouldn't be about Alabama and Auburn football. I certainly don't have a problem with you posting here if you don't have a problem with being here. It's a sensitive topic though, but an important one.

As to the gang aspect, I'm going to do a little homework and I'll put something up if I do conclusively find what I'm looking for. I've seen pictures though, and I've identified at least one of the signs as being 30 Deep, an Atlanta area gang which had 100 arrested in one criminal sweep... I'm not saying the two are connected mind you, I'm just saying it's time to take a good hard look at things.

What if that advice was actually good for both the client and AU? I imagine that talking about gang affiliations of AU football players is likely to be a good way to anger jurors who are likely to be members of the fambly. So it would be good advice for her client as well as for AU. Seems to me that a defense of "I went to a party, someone talked smack about my girlfriend and hit me over the head with a bottle, I just lost it, went back to my car, got my gun, came back and started shooting blindly, sorry that it happened, sorry I shot those players, didn't mean it" would be the best defense. It might not get him off, but it might keep him from getting the DP.
That's not the problem at all. The problem is representing one party and accepting payment from a third party. You can do that, if every facet of the representation is made clear (and it'd better be in writing) to both parties. However, you can never take any action which might be to the disadvantage of the other, which means every tiny action could be subject to scrutiny. I'd never take a chance on it and I doubt seriously that she would. It's a conflict of interest problem at heart...

I understand and all agree about the tragedy. The gang sign clips are there. One poster on one of the AU boards has them as his signature line, apparently totally ignorant of their meaning. There are definite differences in the fan bases. If Bama had had four football players involved in a home invasion armed robbery, I'd scream bloody murder for heads to roll. IF a player left our team, admitting freely that he smoked synthetic MJ on a regular basis, I'd scream again, when I heard it was HIS gun used in the robbery. BTW, he was a close friend of one of the victims, visiting him in his hometown, etc. Then there's another player sued for a violent, almost fatal attack. How much of this can your fan base take and still keep singing in unison "Random, random, random - can happen anywhere." Well get this - IT DOESN'T! WHY DOES IT KEEP HAPPENING AT AUBURN? OK, I'm through...

I'll cite your expressed disappointment with Ro McClain's recent gunplay in Decatur as evidence of the point you are making. If a Bama player or former player misbehaves you will not whitewash it.

No, I won't, and I'm very disappointed in him, being a Decatur native myself. However, that was one incident. You'd think that having four armed robbers on your team, with one guy departed who loaned them his gun and admitted regular drug use would be enough to wake someone up. Instead, it's back to the same old deflect, deny, change the subject act. It appears to go throughout their fan base and their entire power structure. I'd like to think that it helps Bama, but it doesn't. It's a black eye for the entire state and all they do is put out excuses...

Other than offering condolences to the families, I stayed out of the discussion. However I believe there is an environment at API where players feel they can do & get away with anything.
the phrase ALL IN will haunt API for a long time, Covering up wrongdoing by the SCAM family will cost them more than ever was gained.

When the Troopers & Lupers of college football run free, there is a price to pay. In my opinion you are seeing some of that now & expect a lot more.

Cliff Notes of this thread: Agreed upon facts.

1)

2) The first image above is the key point in the discussion... One player is from Florida, One from Mississippi, and one (Neiko) am not sure of.. Someone, somewhere connects this picture to Atlanta gangs... Notice picture 2 appears to show Ben Roethlisberger is also a member.
3) Felony 4 (aka Trailer Park 4). Dyers gun.
4) After a fight, Shooting at a party, 6 shot, 3 dead.
--------------------------------
Some in this Tread believe:
1) Massive cover up which involves the US Marshalls, the FBI, The Auburn Football Program the APD, the state media, the Montgomery Police Department to keep the truth down home cuz. (Maybe the NCAA)
2) 400 people at the party and gang related, at least 21 players.
3) Targeted shooting and he reloaded and gang related.
---------------------------
Media indicates these are good kids and at least Christian was a bystander. I personally do not believe what you guys are selling... Not asking for facts, not asking you to stop, but I wanted it stated, that I totally disagree with the way you guys have connected the dots. May the victims RIP.

i agree. i live about 5 minutes from that complex. It's laughable when i hear reports of 400 people at that party. i'll just say that lot's seem to be trying too hard to find something here.

And all the media in state would be hammering us with every one of these questions were it happening at Bama. Is there any doubt?
