8th grade kicker

Here in town they have 7th/8th grade teams. I believe they play it when you score a TD and kick the try and make it its two points. Run/throw it and score its one point.

Some teams always run/throw, but one team has a kicker who has hit several extra points. This puts pressure on a team to also try to kick it when this team makes their kick. Kids hitting these kicks and the pressure of the snap/hold/kick isn't very common.

I also heard this kid has 30 yard range, his kicks clear the pole by several feet and are deep. He looks small 5' 2/3", but I imagine he will grow. Most teams don't even try to kick and they play on high school fields.

In Kentucky they have just passed a rule where no 8th grade boy/girl can play at the varsity level. I don't know how many times I have seen kids miss this point. The goal posts are around 23' wide.

Bobby Knight once offered a kid as a 8th grader to play B-Ball at Indiana.

5'3" in the 8th grade is not short....yet.

Pretty impressive, hopefully he'll keep up the work.
5'3 in the 8th grade is short? I was 6'1 and most of my friends were in the 5'9 to 5'10 range in the 8th grade. My son is in the 1st grade and 4'9 most of his friends are just a couple of inches shorter than he is. I don't think 5'3 is very tall for the 8th grade. Kickers are not that big usually so he might be about right.

Hey Larry,I think I know this young man. I believe if he concentrates on his kicking, the rest will take care of itself. At any rate his height should be a non issue! :)

I said "yet" for a reason. He still has a growth spurt left in him....hopefully.

I hate to say this buddy, but 30 yarders in 7th/8th grade isn't that impressive. I knew a 6th grader that was hitting 42 yarders for Pop Warner in 6th Grade.

BamaFan, wow! thats really good. I have been told that the whole league doesn't even try to kick, just this team. But after you posted what you have, then everyone disreguard this post.

He is 5 foot and around 3 inches and turned 13 last May. The opposing coaches stopped him and said some real nice thing. He missed his first attempt of the season and is 5/6 since.

A quick look at growth charts shows that the kid is about average height, (whether or not he puberty has hit is a factor)

The kid is doing quite well with his kicking.

A 10 yarder is impressive to me......I could not hit the side of the barn if I was in the barn kicking the ball.....I can chunk it a mile but could never get kicking down. I have busted many of my toes acting like Peter Kim and trying to kick balls between two pine trees in our back yard. Everytime I would miss I would say "off sides defense" and kick it again. I could not have BAMA losing in my own back yard........I wish I was ten again.....:)
