Where the land meets the sky
As many of the old-time members know, my wife and I have been teacher's on the Navajo Reservation since graduating from FSU in 98. My wife is Navajo/Lakota and we pulled up stakes from Tallahassee and moved west after I got my Masters. As our daughter gets older into HS we decided that she needs better options for her life to further her education and I'm tired of Sand and Snow in Northern Arizona. We both recently landed new jobs at the same school in Gulfport, MS. and in a sense I'm returning home. I'm originally from Mobile and grew up a good part of my life in Selma, Alabama. It's going to be a big change and we feel equal to the challenge. I'm looking forward to the return.

It must have been a great life experience in Arizona. I have only been through Navajo country twice in my life and have some small understanding of the challenges you faced and contributions you made there.

This is a pretty big event in your life! Not a bad thing - as I read your circumstances - at your age you & your family should do just fine with the change and new challenges!

I've been to Gulfport - sometime around 24 years ago to help a friend who had a side business selling motorcycle goods at various bike events. He flew me there while he and his wife drove with their truck filled with their tent and merch. I thought is was OK but that's a small sample size.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Congrats / best wishes on the move! Next time I'm down at the Gulf, I'll now make sure we finally get together. Here's hoping the move goes smoothly and you're embraced by the community and the school!
