People said free agency and big money would kill pro sports yet they are still going strong.

Huge reason for that: It's called a collective bargaining agreement.

There is one in every pro sports league where the players are unionized. There isn't one in college sports. Yet.

If the players officially become university employees that would unionization easier I would imagine. (I have never been in a union and don’t know much about union laws).

I don’t know if the format of college sports would make unions feasible but we’ll see what happens. Unions have good and bad points but further discussion on that gets this moved to the political board.

Collective bargaining helps in the pro's for sure, but I think a lot of this can be dealt with using existing contract law with simple early termination clauses and other criteria around what the non-on-field expectations are and what happens if those are not met. Schools/booters/collectives all got a little stupid with how they executed these things early on, but I think are getting closer to being more rational about protecting themselves and the investment they are putting into it.

Which is why I wish/hope Arkansas collectives follow through and sue Madden "IMMALEAVUHYOU" for the funds he apparently received without fulfilling his obligations. This would motivate other collectives to do the same and move toward more normal contractual behavior by the players and their "agents".

With regulation. There is no regulation in college football.

And…there isn’t likely to be uniform regulation unless the federal government gets involved. Just what CFB needs, federal regulation. . Unless, there is a strong national sanctioning body, and what’s the likelihood that will happen. So back to the federal regulation.
