Lot of fans aren't happy with this. Think Bama could've done better. SMH
Not everyone we take is going to be a starter. There are guys taken for depth purposes and also developmental guys they want to take a flier on.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them still take another OT in the portal. Also we still have the post-spring portal to work through.

I will say at this point that Anugwom, from the standpoint of pure potential, is a better bet to me than taking someone who was average but experienced at mid-tier level team. In the initial article we did on the portal this year, we noted that OTs were scarce in general. It's probably the worst OT market we've had in the portal yet. He's only been playing football a couple of years and already has a better physique than a lot of college starters.

Remember too that when it comes to NIL, we're working with a budget. Not every guy they take is going to command big salaries (because we can't pay everybody). The few really sure-thing guys at tackle are getting paid.

LB Sterling Dixon and TE Ty Lockwood to the portal.

This puts Alabama around 81-82 scholarships with a handful of positions (RB, WR, DT, OT) still under consideration. However, the loss of Lockwood makes me think they will need to add a developmental TE, maybe end of spring. There have also been rumblings that Alabama will take a QB for depth at that time.

This is a big one ...

Elijah Pritchett into the portal. Not completely shocked about this but it still creates a numbers crunch at OT.

He was not improving so either he had to go or the OL coach (or both).
Yeah, the last couple of games when Formby came in for him, the level of play at RT went up. Pritchett did do fairly OK replacing Proctor at LT in the bowl game, though.

Not going to make a big deal of it but the locker room may have gotten better with this one.

What type of system doesn't require a highly rated running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield?
There must be other reasons why Hayne's performance fell off this season.
I don't recall his performance falling off. He didn't get the ball much, as Jam was doing OK. But he a downhill runner. Straight ahead. We needed more finesse. A bit of juke back and forth.

As I understand it, CKD wants athletic linemen who can shift and pull. A lighter, shiftier back goes hand in hand with this.

I'm honestly not sure that running back is on our roster.

If the ball is coming out when it's supposed to then your OL don't have to be as big. You can opt for lighter more agile OL if you have a quick hitting passing game and zone blocking scheme in the running game.

It's obvious that CKD wants to get more active and widen the LOS on the OL.

They like Kevin Riley a lot. He's the local kid, a bit smaller than what we typically use but he's got some dog in him.

I loved what little we got to see of him this year. It was obvious that he was quicker/faster than the others. Hoping to see more of him as he develops.

I think they pulled Formby a little early in the year, I believe he'll be ok, they should of let him work through his problems and develop as you said, he's play went up

Formby has good potential. May not be an elite level NFL guy, but with good development he will a very solid guy for us. Very smart and hard working from what I've heard. Can't let one bad game against unusually small speed rushers get you down on him, heck, DJ Fluker got abused by Western Kentucky if I remember correctly. Same situation with small speedy guys. (Could have been someone else as some years back! oof!)
