If the ball is coming out when it's supposed to then your OL don't have to be as big. You can opt for lighter more agile OL if you have a quick hitting passing game and zone blocking scheme in the running game.

It's obvious that CKD wants to get more active and widen the LOS on the OL.
Soooo, we signed Sasquatch sized Arkel Anugwom and Kam Dewberry who are 325 and 330 respectively. These do not seem to be agile linemen.

My sense is the decision was made to “pay to keep” the possible difference makers on the team and told others “this is what we can do. Not negotiating. We want you here, but it is what it is”.
As far as adding players, I think they are budgeting to get key positions adds (Horton, Collins, etc) then bargain shopping the rest.
As someone stated it is the college football’s version of “Money Ball”.

Do you think we will hire NIL evaluators to access the value of players on our roster and in the portal? Personally I think we are going to have to go that way and if a player is asking for more than their accessed value we may have to let them go and or not pursue them in the portal going forward. It’s a sad day for college football but IMO that’s where we are at. If so I bet some schools will go the nfl value of positions. Too many offensive skill position players are getting the higher NIL (I think that is why you are having some db’s wanting to switch to offense) but I wonder if we should start focusing on OL, Edge rusher, and lockdown defensive back positions as our main NIL goals because we won’t be able to bid with some of these teams for top qbs, WRs, etc.

I thought the NCAA removed the 'Walk-On' option
Thats a misinterpretation of the decision. And a common one because that's how some folks phrased it

The ncaa removed the 85 scholarship cap and expanded to 105 scholarship limit but capped the total rosters to 105. That's a pretty big reduction because with walk on rosters were usually around 128.

That's would allow teams to just get rid of walkons....but no one is really doing that...no one has the budget for 105 scholarships and nil and paying the settelment numbers to former players so there's just no point. So the sec and I think other conferences set their own limits.

I think that is probably already happening with Courtney Morgan in the General Manager role. It is the reason USC came after him so hard back in the fall. These coaches know that it goes beyond having a big NIL budget. To be successful going forward you’re going to need to make sure you get the greatest bang for your buck. I think at the end of each season the coaches and analysts are going to access what they have, who is heading to the NFL and of those remaining, who are the key pieces you need to build on for next year. For example if you have a WR you would like to keep, you evaluate the “cost of keeping him” versus someone else in the portal (or you think you can convince to transfer-let’s face everyone is tampering in some way, shape or form, even us). Make your offer. If they say no, move on.

The coaches and analysts will make the decisions on the relative value of each player/position group. The GM’s like Morgan will handle the negotiations.

I agree with you assessment that currently many on the offensive side are probably overvalued and I think as things evolve, some of that will shift to the defensive side.

Like you say we all know that everyone is tampering, but I would like for a coach to come out and just says we are looking for x,y, and z in the transfer portal and kind of put out like an ad for the positions we are looking to add for the portal. If you enter the transfer portal and are interested in the position reach out and we can negotiate. Would let players who are thinking about entering the portal know what is out there and available. You never know who might want to join your team but didn’t enter the portal because not sure if your team is looking specifically for that position. I know the tampering nixes a lot of my last statement but still would be more on the up and up.

You do wonder if it may be smart to hire an outside business consultant to weigh in on this nutty labor situation. Ie no football knowledge
That’s what I was meaning like someone who strictly looks at it from a dollars and cents point of view outside of the football coach point of view.
