The key is the kick did not cross the neutral zone. I guess the punter is a lot more accurate with his foot than throwing the ball hah.

Dont hold me to this but I am pretty sure the ball does not have to stay in the air and the Punter could have bounced it over and the play still count. Checking on the rule to verify this. But if this is the case kicking is not a bad choice if the punter has good directional control.

I think the entire point of kicking it is to keeping the return team thinking that he will be "punting" instead of throwing a pass.
