Or, if we don’t allow them to dominate the defense for 43 minutes we win.

That loss was on the D…I understand that you loathe Milroe to the point that everything that goes wrong is his fault, but in this instance you are straining to blame him.

The D lost that game and it’s really not up for much debate.
They both played badly enough to lose it independently.

I think this has been an eye-opening year for our staff. I truly think the coaches (CKD included) looked at the raw talent on our roster and were literally drooling at the prospects. The problem is that most of the teams in the SEC have elite talent. I think when the team comes out looking like they feel they can just roll their helmets across the field and the other team will trip over them, is a direct reflection of the attitude and expectation of the staff. Hopefully, they have learned that you can lose in the SEC on any given Saturday against any given opponent if you are not locked in and fully prepared and coaching at a high-level. For the most part, we have a young staff and there is plenty of room for improvement. But, given time, I think we'll have a very solid group of coaches who fully understand what it takes to win consistently in the SEC.

they still executed well
The defense did do well some games but in the games against a backup qb I can only give half credit. I think mizzou was also out their rb as well? Will say the d against lsu was fantastic though. I won’t get into how I feel about Wommack and his scheme but I would hope some changes are made on the defensive staff.

And the fact that the defense was worse was the reason we lost.
You act like that is a fact, but it is opinion and speculation because you don't know what would have happened if our offense had given us the lead when given the chance. The defense was terrible, but the team still lost as a whole. Regardless, it was an embarrassing and ridiculous loss, but it probably won't be our last one this year.

In his first year he delivered wins over Uga, LSU, AU, Mizzou, and SC. The efforts at Vandy and OU were pretty pathetic. All in all, there were some very exciting moments and quality performances, but we really need to work on that consistency from week to week next year. Roll Tide!

Congratulations to Coach DeBoer for a record setting 9th win as a first year head coach. Also
one of the few new Alabama coaches to win their first Iron Bowl. He did a great job of holding the
program together after Saban's retirement as we lost 40 players from last years team.
Kept last years recruiting class together and we now have the #2 class.

Roll Tide!!!!

IMHO the Vandy game was more forgivable than the OU game. Vandy has proven to not be an easy out, and Alabama made every miscue at exactly the worst time, stuff happens.
I'm very curious to see how CKD adjusts his thought processes as far as linemen on both sides of the ball. I believe he is an excellent coach. Hoping , after seeing the beast that is SEC football he adapts his ideas, ie finesse, smaller faster linemen, with the brute strength needed to survive in this conference.

If anything, he's already got the "brute strength" type OL and I think we've seen they don't work well with his offense (or what little of his offense he's been able to implement given some other limitations).

The center Brailsford is the only one that seems to fit CKD's preferred OL size/ability and he did a great job this year (to my layman's eye anyway).

Don't be surprised if our OL become smaller and more athletic going forward...

I'd have to go back and watch the replays, but it looked like we had a good plan on both sides of the ball yesterday. Many plays on offense appeared to work as planned.

I don't think we have the talent we thought we had on offense, except maybe the TEs. The best receivers we have came with CKD. Bernard (WR) and Cuevas (TE)...where would we be without those guys.

Im very curious how next season will play out. KDB is gonna have a year of SEC experience under his belt and will be able to get his guys in on offense next year. Hoping for a explosion on offense, and more disciplined play on D.

Considering CKD won more than anyone but Frank Thomas in his first year, and there are only 3 coaches to beat Auburn in their first year as well, he’s done a great job. We can be disappointed about the effort in the OU game, but even Nick Saban has 6 loses his first year. Couple with 39 players leaving and 10 getting drafted. Very few if any coaches could take that kind of turnover and make a winning team, much less a team that has 9 wins.

Great point!

We ALL said that we shouldn't have lost to LaMo that first season...

Because he has a 12-game schedule.....
Bryant didn't lose to Vandy his first year, either (it was a 0-0 tie)
Nor did Perkins, Curry, Stallings, Franchione, or Saban
Shula didn't face them.

We have to give him time, yes.

It should also be noted, however, that it's not like Auburn has been any good for years now.

We can be disappointed about the effort in the OU game, but even Nick Saban has 6 loses his first year.
Saban also didn't inherit a Top Four team from the previous year, and Alabama is not on probation like they were in 2007.

Maybe.
We'll see.

Whether the "right coach" was hired is determined by the Year 2 performance in almost every situation.
