On one level, I agree with her. It is a foundational concept of Christianity (to which I adhere) that love is our only weapon, and is greater than fear. If Mrs. Lynch was speaking in a personal capacity, I would be inclined to defend her.
Even Christianity acknowledges that governments are obliged to enforce law, however (Romans 13:1-7 is pertinent here, as are several other passages. Also, the doctrines of imputed power via various covenants such as the Noahic come into play for the theologically minded). In this case, I would consider it more appropriate for the AG to focus on the role of the government in defending its citizenry while speaking in her public capacity. I don't want to pile on and go all hyperbolic in my criticism, but that wasn't a very deft handling of the matter.
eta - and I don't give a hoot if she resigns or not. It makes no more difference than, for example, the resignation of James Watt.
