Ryan Williams NEEDED to hear/read this from AJ McCarron.

Coddling Ryan Williams will do him no favors. If Williams can not handle criticism now, how will he handle it when he gets to the NFL?

Right now, Ryan Williams and his teammates needs tough love. If Kalen Deboer and his coaching can not provide that, then Bama has a bigger problems than if an 18 year can handle criticism.

This is mild. But it is a gift to Ryan... if he chooses to use it. An Alabama legend cares enough to criticize you when you are obviously not playing well. He could not care... we don't want to go there I assure you.

Go back and look up some of the things the old Miami Hurricane veterans would say about what were the current Miami players, in order to hold them to the "Miami standard." Mind you, the Miami standard was not what I'm saying any program needs to aspire to. The comparison I'm making is the vets keeping the current guys in line.

Money or not it doesn't matter. That isn't how you talk about an 18 year old kid unless you're in the business of ruining careers. We've seen it before.

Nothing he said was even productive. He just ragged on him.

When criticism is warranted, they need to hear it. Age doesn't matter. If they hear it maybe they will improve so no one will criticize them. When I was in college for architecture, we had professors that could be brutal in our presentations. I remember one professor that made a girl cry. This same professor handed one guy a drop slip and told him to consider another major. I personally had one tell me that my idea and concept was an A but my building and design was crap. This motivated me to do better and completely redesign my building and I ended up with a B in the class. Missed out on an A because of a missing drawing they wanted to see. The point is criticism no matter how harsh should motivate you to do better.

Oh and I wasn't getting paid millions.

When I turned in my 1st chapter of my dissertation I was proud. When I received it back 2 weeks later it had more red marks than black type. By the time I finished I was incredibly grateful...but it was a tough lesson to learn...btw, it was @ 250 pages plus addendum. LOL.

Once these guys started taking money to play and getting sponsorships their responsibility level changed 10000%. Expectation is that you're making money, you better produce.

I have no problem with that logic. It's what they've all said they wanted and deserved. You got it and your level of responsibility changed when you signed that NIL deal. Don't like it? Give the money back and we'll have different expectations.

What AJ said was not harsh criticism - it was a guy who busted his rear when he was at Bama and produced because he loved Alabama. He's earned the right to bust these guys chops. Don't like it? Produce.

Once players starting making money, the amateurism went out the window. Ryan Williams NIL deals have to be worth at least $1mm. Who knows? Point is, produce if you don't want criticsm. I think the bigger question remains: Does RW really care what AJ says? I doubt it and there is the problem. They have their money... SMH

He's 18 years old. He's old enough to join the military and go to war. If he can't handle the pressure of being an almost $3 million athlete, then he should have STAYED IN HIGH SCHOOL for another year of maturity and been a freshman this year.

He's a young adult. His brain hasn't even fully developed.

I got ragged on a lot when I was 18. At that age when I and others were in the USMC and not getting paid nearly as much, we got ragged on 100x worse. I'm all for progress and treating each other better than we did in the past but you do have to do your job. I don't feel bad for him.

We made our boy get a job as soon as he turned 16. Why? Because he did no extra circulars, complained about what little chores we gave him, and needed to learn some responsibilities. We were not getting through to him. His boss got onto him for being slow after being on the job a week. I was happy because he needed to learn about how the real world works.

You want to make millions of dollars and bring a stuffed animal onto the field? You better produce or be prepared for the backlash.

Just listened to the clip and AJ did nothing but say the absolute stone cold truth.

Not a syllable was false.

He can address it publicly because he wore that uniform and knows what it takes to prepare and win and do your job on that field.

I still haven’t seen the game and don’t plan to watch (so the comments about RW with a stuffy have me .) Anyway, I HOPE he hears/reads what AJ said. I HOPE it stings. I HOPE it makes him take a long, hard look at himself. More importantly, I HOPE it motivates him to be the absolute best he can be, not just on the field but in every aspect of his life.

I never thought I would see the day that a Bama football player would be wearing fingernail polish and bringing dolls to a football game. I hope we don't have any other players getting NIL deals with Mary Kay Cosmetics or with Victoria's Secret.
