It's really funny that Texas is going after our staff. I can understand them wanting an OC and Coach Mac is a good one (I really think he is limited in his playcalling with us b/c CNS likes the power football/clock chewing stuff).

Not sure we want to match the price.
I can't agree with that. CJM is the best OC we've had at the Capstone in decades. I can't even remember who was better, or even as good. His only problem is having to filter his offense through CNS and have the HC call his own plays. Perfect example is the second half of the Auburn game. CNS was the big momentum killer during several games this season.
And you're hoping we'll hire who exactly?

It's a good thing when Bama's assistant coaches are coveted by other programs. It means we have coaches who are recognized for their competency. I'll take that... even if it means we have some coaching turnover. The alternative is to have a staff of Fulmers... Coaches who are unwanted by any program other than the one that currently employs them.

Pitt is actually a pretty decent job, so I'm wondering if Coach Sunseri is a legitimate candidate. If he can get it, good for him.
I think Pitt it one of the most attractive jobs available in its current state. Wanstadt, despite his failures in X's and O's, could recruit like nobody's business. That team is loaded with talent. Get the right coach in there and they could immediately win in the lousy Big East and be in a BCS bowl.

All the great coaches and teams have coordinators cherry-picked off their staff's for better gigs. This is just part of the process.

In saying we, i do not mean me or the fans. For the most part I'm happy with JM, but I am not in charge. Just going off some things I've seen and heard, I do not think JM will be our OC next year. We'll have to see how this plays out. As far as who I hope we will hire, have not thought much about it. I believe it will be someone that fits Nick's philosphy of ball control and occasionally stretching the ball down field.

I agree with this. I also think turnover is healthy for a program. I mean, yes it hurts recruiting a little bit but my goodness how much better can our talent-base get? What we need is the right schemes and chemistry to make it all work.

Would anyone argue we've yet to face a more talented team this season? I know by star power, UF would be up there, but I think they've been doing a poor job of development for the past 2-3 years and a lot of the guys on this year's team just weren't developed to their fullest. LSU would be the only comparison, imo, but I still think we're more talented. They just played their arses off against us (no surprise....).

But seriously, I can think of more than a few programs that got stale because they never had turnover. Pine box would change out his coordinators, but he had the exact same group of assistants for like 12 years, dating back to Ole Miss. That group had become stale. I think turnover is good all the way around if the assistants leave for step-up jobs (improves reputation and makes it easier to attract top-line assistants) and of more importance is how it can breath new life and new ideas into the program. Think how much more aggressive CNS' scheme was at LSU with Muschamp. Do you guys remember those LSU defenses that would absolutely SMOTHER the LOS. They would rack up TFL and Sacks like candy on Halloween.

With Nick at the helm I'm just not worried about us losing a coach and not being able to restaff with new blood of equal, if not greater, value to the program. JMO.

Some turnover is not necessarily a bad thing on a staff, especially one as controlled as Saban's. Those coaches run his plans, and are expected to run them up to his level of expectation.

I am actually surprised that we have not had more turnover, as Saban is also notoriously demanding of his assistants. His assistants receive a great education form Saban, but don't necessarily want to stay forever. I have a relative who was on Roof's staff at Duke and after that staff was let go, he went through T-town to watch a practice and came away saying that there was no way that he could coach for Saban. (BTW he is now on the current Ok. St. staff who is doing pretty well.)

Anyway, it takes a special kind of coach to coach for CNS and I am sure that whoever leaves will be replaced with an excellent coach.
