Yup. CNS was the anomoly with losses coming in big games and consistently winning the "trap games." Even going back to CKD at UW, they seem to rise for the big games, but are vulnerable in games they should win (ie, 2023 vs ASU)
I don't think you can really say that at this point. It didn't happen in his second year at Washington, only his first. And it happened in his first year at Alabama. It seems more like a first year thing than anything else. There's not much we could've done differently against Oklahoma, given what happened with QB play. I thought the Oklahoma game was actually very predictable, considering what defenses Milroe has always struggled against. I think I even posted on here that I thought we might win 10-7 or something. Take away all of Milroe's interceptions in that game, and that prediction wouldn't have been far off. We probably would've won. The Michigan game was very predictable too, considering it wasn't far off from what happened in the CFP. It all came down to turnovers. i did not really expect to beat Michigan this year, either, since they returned most of their defense. Let's see what he does in his second year with a QB who can read a defense, before we say his teams have a tendency to not show up. Also, we talk about Oklahoma and Vandy like they were terrible, but they probably would have both won 8 games in the ACC or Big 12. Oklahoma's defense was beastly. Vandy was the only game where it really felt like we weren't ready. Most of the team played fine against Oklahoma and Michigan. QB play was our downfall in those games. Even the Bandy is still a win without the turnovers. Let's not forget, Saban defenses often struggled against the triple option also. We always overcame it, due to our insane depth. However, the days of stacking talent like that are over, for everyone. We will probably start seeing more teams stumble in games like that, as a result of the changes that have been happening within college football.

There might be some gray area to how I worded it about CKD (even tho the ASU game I referenced was in his second season ... a 7-0 UW team was fortunate to have beaten 1-6 ASU), but I still stand by CNS being the exception (and Kirby being close behind him). Compared to Meyer, Carroll, Dabo, Sark, Tuberville, etc. we traditionally did not have letdowns against inferior opponents. Those other guys got their teams up for big games but would drop them (sometimes in blowout fashion) to inferior teams. I agree with your takes about our specific games last season, but it was also clear we were less "prepared" for those games, whether schematically or emotionally. OU was as lifeless of a game as I can remember, especially when everything was on the line
