It has been one of my complaints for a while that we just were not in shape. We were worn out after halftime and it showed. I don't believe we can build a consistent winner here with one and done kids , and on top of that, they will be going away. The NBA will be letting high school kids go into the developmental G league and some will choose that route. Some will choose to come to school though. Zion Williamson was not supposed the be the phenom he has become which means some kids will choose to go to school as well. We need a team to play together as Auburn has done this year. Almost all of their players have been together at least 2 years if not 3.

We need to remember Rome wasn't built in a day either. We should be better next year and there is nothing wrong with expecting to be in contention for the tourney, but give Coach Oats time. I think his expectation is championships so lets give him time to build us to that level.
From what I've gathered since yesterday, the team wasn't anywhere close to being accustomed to the simple basketball drills Oats wanted to run. Am afraid previous practices were more NBA-like than we realized.

It's been pretty obvious Bama BB players were not in good shape and it was more obvious this year than any other. The first time I noticed (some time in December) I wondered if the flu was going around. Then they opened SEC pretty well and that seemed to confirm it, but then it just got worse and worse as the season wore on.

S&C and fundamentals seem to be a focus of CNO. Bama needs both very much.

Fitness and skill development issues were centerpieces of the Avery Johnson era but frankly I think the problems started in the later years of Gottfried and continued up until the moment Oats walked into the gym. What I like is hearing a coach that talks just enough shop to let you know he's doing work and not just shilling platitudes.

I believe we'll see a big difference this fall. I believe 20 wins is a real possibility.
Maybe I'm getting too excited and hyped, but I would hope for 20 wins in year one solely off Avery getting 18 wins with minimal fundamentals and S&C.

Caveat being how the schedule shapes up (OOC is unknown with the exception of the brutal Battle 4 Atlantis tournament).

We have to have two guys that can handle the ball to win. Hopefully we have that, but right now you have to wonder?

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Better conditioning should lead to fewer mental errors/turnovers late in games, which would allow us to hold on to double digit leads late in games.

The 2018-19 team should have won 20 games and if not for blowing late leads and losing to teams they probably shouldn’t have. I really don’t see how they can’t get there next year if improvements are made and CNO can convince Kira to stay and pull Watford in this upcoming recruiting cycle

We should have won at least 22 this season. Probably were capable of winning 25 last year with Sexton.

You're right about the schedule, but also how well the team truly comes together and whether or not they respond positively to CNO's culture change. If Kira returns, the talent is there to have a 20 win season.

If we get Watford and get Lewis back, I expect the floor to be 20 wins, and will be hoping closer to 25

I heard an interview with our golf coach once. He said the previous coach wasn’t big on conditioning. The first practice, he had everyone run up and down the steps at Coleman. He said he lost a few players right after that.

I'd be very pleased to see Alabama get to 20 wins in year one; however, much like CNS' first year I'll be happy with improvements in the fundamentals/S&C/effort even if the record does not reflect the improvement.
We might start the year in the tourney with multiple losses, but the difference I hope we'll see is slow and steady improvement over the course of the year with a much stronger finish in Feb./March than we've seen the last couple with Avery.

As others have stated, just an improvement of basic fundamentals and conditioning would equal several wins compared to last year.

Obviously, getting Kira back in the program and/or securing a good PG otherwise is going to be a big part of this.
