Alabama Player Nicknames

Thought it would be fun to see if there are some nicknames of any current or former Bama player that I don't know about. I keep a list for fun and would love to hear some! Really wanting some more obscure ones; we all know about Snake, Biscuit, the Italian Stallion, Mount Cody, the Terminator, Broadway Joe, etc.

Smitty is tied for my favorite all-time player (Ingram) though so I'm biased.

His other nicknames are good too... 'The Golden Gazelle' 'Silky Smooth'

The “Alabama Antelope”. I.e. Don Hutson also heard the “Dothan Antelope” for Johnny Mack Brown;

Then there are the name synonymous with the player: “HaHa“ Clinton-Dix; ”Dixie” Howell”; “Pooley” Hubert; Cecil “Hootie” Ingram;

lastly, there is a coach at a certain ACC school with a lifelong nickname that played for Alabama.

My favorite: John "Hog" Hannah
(John Hannah was the first famous person I ever met. My grandfather was a long-time deacon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Albertville, and I went to church with him one Sunday when I was in town visiting my grandparents. After church, my grandfather told me, "I would like you to meet someone." He led me to the biggest man I had ever seen in my life, and introduced me to John Hannah, who was in the prime of his NFL career. I have since read that JH actually wasn't that big by today's OL standards--6'1" or so--but he was a giant to my 11 year old eyes. He was very gracious to me, and when he shook my hand, it seemed like his hand enveloped my arm up to my elbow. JH had a friend with him who also played in the NFL, and I met him as well, but I don't remember who he was. JH was already a favorite of mine since he was from my parents' hometown, but that cemented it.)

I actually just remembered another one: LaMichael "Dink" Fanning. He graduated from the school district where I work. It will be hard to get more obscure than that.

Haha Clinton-Dix. There seems to be a lot of people that think his legal name was Haha.

Washington player catches a deflection and runs the ball back to the one yard line, then, inexplicably, drops it.

If I was a football coach, I would end up either convicted or an alcoholic. I would absolutely lose my mind if one of my players did this. It is one of the most selfish, unbelievably stupid, unnecessary, immature plays in football. This would drive me to distraction.

As for the name “Ha Ha”? It’s a creation of Clinton-Dix’s grandmother. As Ha Ha, whose Christian name is Ha’Sean, said at the NFL Combine:

“See, my first name is pronounced ‘Ha-SEEN’ but some people said “Ha-SHAWN.” so some people got mixed up a lot and my grandmother gave me that name when I was about 3 or 4 years-old, and everyone’s been calling me that since then.”
