We're going to be doing something a little different with our typical 2025 Alabama Preview article. It's now an eight-parter with some more in-depth looks at the personnel in each position group. Kicking it off, of course, are the QBs.

Thanks JessN!

No surprises, which is probably a good thing.

My question, which is probably impossible to answer, is what happens with Keelon if TS isn't a one-and-done starter this year and decides to return for another year?

I'm anxious to see how TS does. As Jess stated, if he loses the starting job then things likely won't be going well for the Tide.

Key takeaway for all 3 QBs - very little to zero experience. :(

That means we'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

Only 1 of 2 options

Stay and continue to compete and may the best QB win…

Or

Dip off to another team for more money and/or playing time in which my stance would be…

IMO you really sugarcoated Mack’s analysis. He was by far the worst QB at A-Day and there was no mention of his tendency to force INTs. Most people have said Russell has already passed him for the backup role. I doubt Mack ever plays at Bama, barring injuries to Simpson and Russell.

So the #2 quarterback question goes like this for me. It doesn't matter. If Ty goes out for whatever reason, and they start Mack, he'll either do good, and remain the starter. Or he bombs, and Keelon goes in to try his hand. If Mack does good, then Keelon would have to wait his turn. He would be looking at starting two years, or be a phenom and off to the NFL after his Junior year. Would he dart to the portal? Would CKD jump him over Mack?

Fall camp will sure up the order, but I wouldn't automatically assume Mack would be the one to jog on if TS went down with an injury.

IMO, he's up there with Tua and Bryce in terms of potential. Not sure Mack has ever had that kind of buzz. As it seems right now, he's the guy we hope grows into his body.

I haven't seen enough of any of these guys to make a logical prediction on how they will do. TS may be great or he may flop. However, I disagree with Jess in that TS will be jumping to the NFL after one season as QB1 at Bama.

AM and KR are total question marks. Both have talent and potential. But neither has any experience on the college level. I think KR has the higher upside - perhaps by a lot - but he will need time to mature and develop.

For me, the optimal scenario would be for TS to be QB1 for 2 years. Redshirt KR his freshman year. Then give him the reins for 2-3 years after TS is gone.

How often will you publish each subsequent article?

Simpson didn't get really fair chance to show what he could do last year and I'm telling you. All he has to do is put up decent # and he's gone. Keep that in mind if Simpson comes back, we could lose Russell or Mack to transfer. It's a delicate situation. I expect Russell to start coming along mid season and really pushing for starting spot into spring next year.

I could be bad wrong, but all TS has to do is get the ball out on time to run this offense.

In his very limited time last year, he showed he had command over the short routes.

For him it's a matter of getting in sync with the receivers and getting the ball to them on time, which JM could not consistently do, being late with almost every throw!

As I understand it, Grubb designs passing plays to be run with proper timing. With this receiving core, I think TS will eat all year long!

JM needed guys to be running in open spaces to get them the ball. I think the contrast will be huge with TS. I think we'll see some big passing plays that are simply the result of hitting a receiver in space on time! Such a novel concept!

Agree with all of that.

I’m most excited for people to really see how elusive this kid can be.

He will extend broken plays too and either get the ball to a WR on the run or he will take off and be 15-20 yards + down the field before the defense can blink.

This kid is like Houdini.
