Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

ehheh. Yeah. The defensive coaches won't catch on to that by about the 4th play of the next qb.

Don't think he means the same plays in order...generally speaking the same kind of plays to evaluate their performance.

I'll trust Coach Saban's decision on how to handle this. But if the decision is to start Jalen with the mindset of "Give him one last shot". I sure do hope and pray it doesn't backfire. Because I can see soooo much that could go wrong by going that route.

After really considering everything carefully, I predict that this thread will have over 750 posts before game time.

Welp, Tua is listed before Jalen just like Najee is listed before Jacobs...there's that. :biggrin2:

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

another note of interest. some are talking loyalty and what not. but remember Saban is from the Bill Belichick coaching tree. maybe a quote from Tom Brady when asked about his job being safe sums up the thought process of both coaches. "Safe? Bill would cut me tomorrow if he could find someone who played just as well as i do, but did it for a dollar less per year. paraphrasing of course i can't find the actual quote.

ha. That's pretty funny

Calm down everyone, its going to be fine.

Here are the facts for this weeks game against Louisville.

-Tua will Play
-Hurts will Play
-CNS will allow both of them game action to confirm in real time what he already knows and allow the fans to see it unfold on the field and not on the internet.
-Both can lead Bama to success in 2019

Here are my own opinions.

-I have watched video and several practices. Tue is the better QB and it’s obvious.
-Tua has the insticts that all great passing QBs have. You cant teach this.
-Hurts has a calm demeanor on the field and does not generally get rattled. His low key demeanor is not always a positive during game situations.
-Both will have some successes and mistakes against Louisville.
-Baring injury this first game will not be the end to this battle in terms of naming a permanent starter.
-If CNS starts Jalen he will be testing more than his on field play. He will be using one of his 4 games. I see him continuing this for 4 weeks or until Jalen shows his cards and comes to Saban with questions or his plans. I dont think it will take 4 games of playing both for this to happen. Likely after game 2-3 Hurts will seek Saban out to discuss his options.
-CNS does this to allow the two to perform on the field but also to force Jalen to show his cards early in the season.
-Tua starts because I dont want to have a Vandy Avatar. LOL

CNS stated in the press conference that he has an obligation to the team to play the best player so I'm gonna relax a little.

I’d rather you not have to sport that Vandy avatar either

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

The fact that Tua is listed first is significant. Typically, Jalen would have been first since he is the incumbent.

Obviously, the following is nothing but an opinion. Tua will start, though not being named starter. He will likely play the majority or all of the "important" time in the game. An official starter may not be named for a couple of games, but it will be obvious who is the starter, not only by play but the way the QBs are rotated.

Feel much better now, though we know CNS knows what is going on. It's just that at his age you just never know when the "decline" has begun . For Saban probably not til 75. Whew - the pressure has been released. We can all exhale.

If I were CNS I'd probably do this just because.

This, of course, is one of the myriad of reasons I'm not the HC at Alabama...
Wasn’t it in 2016 that Cooper Bateman was the first one listed for the QB with Blake and Jalen behind him with the “or”.

Cooper didn’t come in until the end of the game. Saban has trolled before. Lol

Starting Mac Jones for a few series would certainly catch Louisville off guard! Saban won't do that though. It would be fun to see Mac play some in the 4th quarter though if we have enough of a lead.
