Here's a nightmare scenario. Suppose CNS didn't pull the trigger last January and Tua transferred. Not only do we lose the NC game, Tua and Taulia (as a recruit), it also means Jalen is entrenched at QB for probably this year and the next because CNS would have probably dug in on him even more.

I'm not sure we would have won Sat. night with Jalen. Not the way the game was being called at least.

Everyone, including Jalen needs fo listen closely to Coaches comments today.

“If a player is committed to the team, how can they pick and choose when they want to play?”

This is what I have said is the whole reason for the last several weeks. Saban will proceed as if Jalen is 100% committed to this team and the full year, no 4 games. This will not change unless Jalen decides his future as a QB and his personal goals are more important than the team. If he were to decide his goals are more important than the team, then I would look for him to leave the team before end of the year. This is also why I believe Jalen plays in first 5 games.

Here is another little tidbit. Jalen has started exploring other options if he were not to pursue only playing QB. I wont say he has made his mind up by any means, but at least he is listening to some smart people’s thoughts on this matter.

I thought it was interesting that when he named Tua as starter that he said, "We will use Jalen's skill set in anyway that we can to benefit the team."

Let the speculation begin.

I'm just not sure there's any advantage in playing him at QB when Tua is healthy.

So, could he be talking about at another position?

If your source is correct, it may be the smartest thing he's done of late.

He's never going to play in the NFL as a QB. Never.

Well they were dead on acurrate about the meeting with QBs on Thursday, who would start and they would rotate after a few series early on. Also, my post earlier today before the pressor saying Tua would be the starter and Jalen would keep playing.

No reason for me to doubt them now 😉

Jalen has improved - he made a couple of nice passes. I think he has learned from watching Tua, that you can trust your receivers, and put the ball in the air. Jalen's throw down the left side-line, where the receiver came back having dumped his coverage was a throw I think he wouldn't have tried for last year. This is all good for him and good for us. But there was still plenty of that behind-line-of-scrimmage stuff, and low or hard to catch, badly timed, off the wrong shoulder, wild deep throws and so-on. He's improved a bit but not near enough.

The biggest thing to me is where is the team? I doubt there is any question who they want to start.

Saban always has a backup plan and a tertiary plan and so forth. Until he knows Jalen’s “end game” he is left to his primary backup plan being in question. He likes to have all his ducks in a row and already know his moves before he has to make them. This is why he is the greatest. He is planning today for moves he will make 2 years from now.

So, you think Saban is going to let Jalen dictate when he plays?

Absolutely not. Saban is playing Jalen when he wants him to play. I personally feel it will be every game. Saban is treating Jalen as if he is any of our other weapons. Use him to win.

The only thing that changes this is if Jalen goes to Saban and says he doesnt want to burn his redshirt this year. If this happens I personally dont know how he stays on the team or Saban allows him too. But thats my personal opinion.

If he goes to Saban and requests not to play he essentially becomes a "dead" roster spot. Would Saban allow him to continue with the team or just simply part ways with him?

Man thats a sobering question tbh. I cant see how Saban would allow him to stay on the team but I also cant imagine being the one to make that call. My hope is Jalen chooses the team for 2018 and lets things happen as they do and he is here 100%. At the end of the year he decides if he wants to transfer for 1 year somewhere.

Man, just think about having to make that choice. 🤮

It’d be a compromise. Jalen would stay engaged in case Tua got hurt but otherwise why burn a year of eligibility just coming in for mop up duty? Saban keeps an experienced and capable backup and Jalen keeps his eligibility unless Tua suffers an injury..

This “wont” work for Saban IMO. I cant see him allowing a player to be that selfish and put himself over the team and stay on the team. But I dont have to make that decision

We have worn this situation out, but I cannot understand why Jalen would play mop up duty this year, lose a RS year, graduate in December and, transfer with only one year of eligibility left. I know classes have started, but why not go ahead leave the team, graduate in December and still have two years to play. Maybe I am missing something.

It wouldn't be selfish of Jalen to ask not to play in more than 4 games. Or if it is, its a perfectly reasonable amount of selfishness. IF Hurts wants to transfer but wait until December I think CNS should allow that.

I've already said it, but I think that the best bet, assuming Jalen plans to transfer after this season, is to let Mac Jones take snaps when the game is in hand, getting him experience for next year, and save Hurts for the last 3 games, or for a situation so dire I'm not even going to say it. (I'm not superstitious. Just cautious)
