This Saturday some of Bama's greatest will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF). Not taking anything away from Buck Johnson, but it's long overdue that the Bama football inductees finally made it in.
Here is what I do not and can not understand about the ASHOF. How in the world can two former aubie RB's, Terry "He Haw" Bama Hater Henley and Mike Fuller, make it in the before Barry Krauss, Jerry Duncan, and Wilbur Jackson. Something just doesn't add up. Henley and Fuller never played on any championship teams at Auburn and their stats are nothing to write home about. Their ONLY claim to fame is being members of the 1972 Auburn team that upset Alabama. More than Fuller, it really chaps me that a complete jack a** like Henley can make it in before more deserving Bama greats.
What Krauss, Jackson, and Duncan achieved at Alabama is incredible. Between them is four National Championships combined and eight SEC Championships. Krauss was a first team All American, the goal line stand he played in against Penn State is legend, and he had a great NFL career. Wilbur Jackson averaged almost eight yards per carry in 1973. Jerry Duncan was famous for his tackle eligible play and spent 24years on the Bama sideline during radio broadcast.
I'm thrilled these guys made it in, however the process of putting them in stinks. It would not surprise me one bit if politics played a role in Henley and Fuller getting in. What's also sad is Major Ogilvie hasn't been voted in. Neither Henley or Fuller could fill Major's jock strap.
