2/25/2025

TUSCALOOSA, AL –
A 13-run second inning propelled the Alabama baseball team to a 20-11 win over Jacksonville State on Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the win, Alabama improves to 9-0 on the young season.

The Crimson Tide exploded for 13 runs on 10 hits, including five home runs, in the second inning. Kade Snell opened the home half of the second by reaching on a single, starting a parade of nine consecutive runners reaching base, all scoring a run. In total, 16 men came to the dish for the Tide in the second inning.

Justin Lebron finished 3-for-5, producing multiple home runs for the second consecutive game while adding five RBI. Both of his home runs occurred in the 13-run second inning. Bryce Fowler closed his night at 2-for-5 with five RBI as well, highlighted by a grand slam in the second-inning outburst. In his first plate appearance since his walkoff, three-run home run on Sunday, Will Hodo launched another three-run shot in the first. The Tide first baseman ended his night 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Adding to the Tide's offensive night was Brady Neal, who connected on his first Alabama home run as part of his 1-for-3 evening, while Richie Bonomolo Jr. managed a a perfect 3-for-3 effort with two walks and one RBI.

JT Blackwood (2-0) made his second start of the season, allowing five earned runs on six hits over 3.1 innings of work with one walk and a season-high three strikeouts. Zach Kittrell followed Blackwood's effort, surrendering three runs on two hits in an inning of action. Tyler Fay, Braylon Myers and Packy Bradley-Cooney combined to throw the final 4.1 innings, allowing just two unearned runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts to close out the game.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn

"What a start and what a finish. We let them get back up off the mat a bit in the middle innings, but that's a good offense and those guys can really hit. Coach Bieser and his team capitalized on every mistake we made and you have to credit them for not rolling over, it tells you a lot about their makeup. The combination of Tyler Fay and Braylon Myers there at the end kind of squashed what they had going. Some things I wish we could have taken back and fix a bit in the middle, but a win's a win and we're going to move on and turn our attention to North Dakota State."

How It Happened

  • B1 | Justin Lebron was plunked by a pitch and Coleman Mizell worked a walk, with Will Hodo next up. The senior first baseman proceeded to lace a 455-foot, three-run home run to right-center. (3-0, Alabama)
  • T2 | Jacksonville State immediately responded, hitting a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning. (3-1, Alabama)
  • B2 | The Crimson Tide scored 13 runs on 10 hits, including five home runs. Kade Snell led the inning off by lining a single into right, scoring on Brady Neal's first long-ball of the season. Richie Bonomolo Jr. and Bryce Fowler then both singled before Lebron slugged a three-run home run. Mizell followed Lebron with a long-ball to right-center before Jason Torres reached on a single and advanced to second on a fielding error. Hodo's base-hit brought in Torres, while a hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases for Bonomolo Jr., who drew a walk of his own to produce an additional run. Fowler followed Bonomolo Jr. by clearing the bases with his second grand slam of the season. Lebron punctuated the scoring with his second home run of the inning. (16-1, Alabama)
  • T4 | A pair of free passes and a single loaded the bases, as JSU drove in two runs on a double into the left field corner. One batter later, the Gamecocks cleared the bases with a two-run single through the left side of the infield. (16-5, Alabama)
  • T5 | A leadoff hit by-pitch came around to score on an RBI-single to short with one out. The next Gamecock walked, preceding a three-run homer to right field. (16-9, Alabama)
  • T7 | The leadoff batter reached on a single and moved into scoring position after an error. The next Gamecock dropped a fly ball into left, driving in a run, but was thrown out after trying to advance to second. The next two batters were hit by pitches before a two-out error allowed another run to come across. (16-11, Alabama)
  • B8 | Neal worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second after Bonomolo Jr. reached with his third single of the day. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, with Neal jogging home on a Fowler sac fly. Lebron next drove Bonomolo Jr. home with a liner into left. Lebron then stole second and later scored thanks to an RBI-single off the bat of Mizell, who crossed one batter later when Torres hit a double into the left-center field gap (20-11, Alabama)
