This is great news - though I wish we weren't starting an inexperienced QB in such a high profile game.

Great NATIONAL exposure for Bama on the first week of the season!

ROLL TIDE!

(And I have a nephew graduating from Va. Tech this week.)

Should we go ahead and chalk that one down as a win? :cool2:
We'll be favored, but it's far from a given.

We'll have a quarterback getting his first start, and you can rest assured that Virginia Tech won't roll over and play dead like Clemson did. Say what you will about the ol' Chokies, but at the very least they will come out and match our physicality and our intensity.

I have a 133 TT points, I doubt I will have enough.
I had 129 points this year, but still managed to get two lower bowl tix for Clemson via Tide Pride. Still much easier than getting SECCG tickets for sure, because more tickets go to the schools, as opposed to season ticket holders, corporate sponsors, other SEC schools, execs, etc...

Oooohhhhh we better win this one! I've been waiting since the Music City Bowl for some revenge against these guys!! It's been tough up here in Hokieville as a Bama fan.

Last year I tried to pick on one of the supervisors where I work about some game Tech lost last year. He said I've got two words for ya, Louisiana Monroe!
That one left a mark.

Anyway, I can't take losing to them again. Here's to a great start to the season and a big ol' glass of shut up for the Hokies!!!

Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like this quality matchup early in the season before we start facing SEC opponents. Hopefully, it will be a quality WIN before the round of non-conference cupcakes...:BigA:

I hate starting with this game, and having to break out a new QB and re-tooled OL vs the Va Tech D that is basically always top 10.

Hopefully we can prove that we're ready at those positions. Our defense should keep us in the game though.

Va Tech certainly is no Clemson, Beamer is a great coach (one of my favorites) and they're going to give us a fight. Their offensive playmakers will be more mature also.

If we can get our running game going, we should win.

I will be there. I have already taken the Friday before off to travel and will be able to see my family afterwards since it is Labor Day weekend.

Our defense will be better than theirs. This just means that our defense can't take it easy on the offense in early practices. Our new O-Line and QB need to get hit in the mouth before this game kicks off.

Then again, I am sure that CNS has this well in hand. He wouldn't have scheduled the game if he didn't think the team could handle the challenge...

our defense will have some pretty salty characters that will get the inexperienced off. line ready for va tech. and i hope they get to watch the bowl game with tech. we owe them some major pain.

VT will be a tremendous challenge for us to open the season. They were a fairly young team this past season, and started a freshman QB for most of the year. I expect them to be a much improved team next year, possibly a top 10 team.

Also, Frank Beamer is a very good coach who puts an emphasis on defense, special teams, and running the ball.

Alabama will be breaking in a new QB, and possibly three new offensive linemen. If we are slow out of the gate, VT could give us all kinds of problems. I think we'll win the game, but it should be a fairly close one IMO.

Should be a good atmosphere with this game, and I love that Bama is scheduling these type of games. It puts Bama on center stage when every college football fans is hungry for some football.......

Hopefully Bama QB & OL is ready for this one, and with Virginia Tech's style of play it should be a good test for Bama right out the gate. I just have always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.

At least Saban & company will have plenty of time to get a plan together......:)
