I believe we'll force them to throw but be careful to push the pocket and not over pursue. Over pursuit will give Watson the ability to step up and take off. He'll have a spy at times. I figure they'll roll the pocket a lot giving a run/pass option and getting Watson away from the D-line

I think we can expect Watson to be on the move the entire game. No way they`ll try to park him in a pocket. I`m sure the coaches are planning for that. We`ll probably see a lot of the rabbits in this one.

Rueben "the Human Missile" as a spy on Watson should be a pretty successful deterrent to him running wild.
I think Reuben will be one of our spies. The key when Watson takes off is to punish him. We won't be able to totally contain his scrambles but when he decides to take off he is going to have to realize he is going to get hit hard and by several people. I think after a few scrambles he is going to realize he is better off trying to throw it instead of run it.

We seem to spy some, but I think philosophically the staff believes in containment rush where you sorta pincer the QB into the pocket to force him to run into the middle of the defense. It doesn't always work though but it was definitely very effective against Mississippi State this year. It is worth noting that Clemson has a much better OL than Clanga. I think Clemson's OL is really the strength of their team this year. Kind of a no-name group compared to the individual adulations guys like CamRob and Kelly get on our unit...but they play really well together.

Yet another game were the staff is gonna have to get our DL mentally lathered up for a battle...

I heard that they had to replace their entire OL so it makes what they are doing fairly remarkable but at the same time makes me think the inexperience of their OL will be an advantage with our front 7 being our strength.

They are a plus-plus unit on run blocking and that is really the bread and butter for this team. They're a neutral/soft minus on pass protection but they rarely do pure dropback passing. Most of their passes have a play action aspect that slows down the rush of the defense.

msu had a very solid o-line and we beat them like a rented mule

I could see Ronnie Harrison being a spy when the defense gets in Dime. He has the speed to track Watson down when he scrambles.

It's quite possible that part of the thinking was to save DH for this final, be-all game.

I read a column - I believe it was by Michael Casagrande - which went into some detail about how the game plan was to involve our other weapons to stretch out their D, knowing that Michigan State was going to sell out to stop the run.

Kudos to Lane Kiffin...

IMO, the best thing that helps our defense is for Watson to be on the sideline while our offense is putting pounding, physical drives together and wearing their defense down. Three and outs on offense will really hurt us and not getting off the field on third down on defense will as well. Both areas where we could stand to improve.

Something to think about is that msu had a 50 percent 3rd down proficiency before they played Bama. For the game they were less than 33 percent.

I was happy to see us convert a few 3rd and longs against MSU.
