Well, look, I like Alfy and all and I do believe that he got somewhat of a raw deal from the NCAA. All that said, it's just not a real miss on our end, and frankly there is no real reason to believe that he would have lasted in Tuscaloosa even without the academic issues.
The kid goes from 'Bama to East Carolina to Itawamba to Los Angeles to a verbal with NC State and now another verbal with South Carolina. And this is all at least sixteen months before he ever plays a snap at the FBS level. Based on that, exactly how was he ever going to last three plus years in Tuscaloosa? As demanding as our program is, it was never going to happen.
In any event, it's all mindless speculation anyway. In the two years since Hill was kicked to the curb by the Clearinghouse we've won 23 games and a national championship. We'll put a Jack linebacker in the first round of the NFL Draft at the end of the month, and with Dickson, Hubbard, and Anderson, we're stacked at Jack for the next two or three years. To the extent that it was a loss for us in absolute terms, it was a loss that cost us nothing.
I agree its a long shot, but assuming academics and attitude were good, I think he'd be starting JLB this year.
